“When as a child I laughed and wept,
Time crept.
When as a youth I waxed more bold,
Time strolled.
When I became a full-grown man,
Time RAN.
When older still I daily grew,
Time FLEW.
Soon I shall find, in passing on,
Time gone.
O Christ! wilt Thou have saved me then?
Amen. “
Henry Twells (1823-1900), British rhymester. "Time's Paces," quoted in Alan L. Mackay, The Harvest of a Quiet Eye (1977). Poem fixed to the front of the clock-case in the North Transept of Chester Cathedral.

So where did the summer go? I walked outside this evening and I found that some leaves have already fallen from our Capital Pear tree onto the mum planted below. The mum has begun its fall bloom. I know it is the day after Labor Day, but geesh, you’d think that the seasons wouldn’t turn so quickly. I swear, didn’t it used to be more gradual? Time is flying. And the older I get, the faster it goes. HH tells me that it gets quicker every year. Great – I don’t have enough time now to do everything I need to and he’s telling me I’ll have even less time in the future! Not what I need to hear.
Loved your quote and your rant!! That is the way I feel, a lot! And I will be 79 years old mid-Oct. This isn't the way I envisioned my last years here on earth. But I am enjoying it. Make certain you do to. Lovely shot.
ReplyDeleteLove the color of the mum!
ReplyDeleteI hope we don't go straight into winter anytime soon. Summer didn't seem like summer this year at all.
Take care
What a pretty mum! SO true, about how times goes faster all the time!
ReplyDeleteIona - I've always said that getting older sure beats the alternative! ;)
ReplyDeleteSaraG - You're right, it was a cool, quick summer here. It didn't seem like summer most of the time.
Mari - It's flying! Can you believe that we are almost 3/4 of the way through this 365 Project?
