“When everything flows into place - washes dry tonally correct, crisp and sparkling, the light scheme is sound and the "accidentals" are all happy ones - I'm temporarily in a euphoric state.”

SUBJECT: Christmas floral arrangement
I was playing around with my Christmas gift – a Canon 50mm f/1.8 II camera lens – taking several shots of a floral arrangement that friends had sent us. I took pictures of it with the candles in it lit; the candles unlit; I placed it in front of the little tree with the white lights behind it; then moved it to the front of the big tree with the colored lights behind it; I placed it against the solid colored wall; I took pictures from far away; I took pictures as close as the lens would allow…I took a lot of photos. After downloading and reviewing the shots, I came across this one. This is straight out of the camera – just slightly cropped – I liked it the best. I like how the pinecone and the red rose in the lower corner are the only things in focus; I like the bokeh behind the pine cone and I like the funky way the greenery turned out. It is a happy accident.
