Best. Card. Ever. (171/365)

2010 06 20 IMG_7861w
Fatherhood is pretending the present you love most is soap-on-a-rope.

Bill Cosby (American Actor, Comedian and Producer. b.1937, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA)

TIME:  8:10 PM
PLACE:  Home
SUBJECT:  “Hapi foths bay” card

This morning, as I was in the bathroom, getting ready for the day, I could hear StellaDella talking to herself downstairs in the kitchen - “HA-HA-pa-ee, ha-PA-PA-ee, ha-pa-EE.  FA-FA-thrs, fa-TH-TH-rs, fa-th-SS-SS, DA-DA-a, Da-AY.”  She was silent for a bit, then she came upstairs into the bathroom with this card.  “I made this card for Daddy and figured out the words all by myself!  Do you think he will like it?” she asked.  Yes, SD, I do believe that he’s going to love it.  And he did.

A Little Privacy Please (259/365)

2009 09 16 IMG_0066
“A new father quickly learns that his child invariably comes to the bathroom at precisely the times when he's in there, as if he needed company. The only way for this father to be certain of bathroom privacy is to shave at the gas station.”

Bill Cosby (20th century), U.S. comedian. Fatherhood, ch. 3 (1986).

TIME:  9:43 PM
PLACE:  The bathroom
SUBJECT:  Privacy glass

We live in an older home with windows that need serious replacement and updating to be more energy efficient.  Our bathrooms have vintage privacy glass on both the top and bottom sashes.  I have always liked the texture and pattern on these panes of glass.  Tonight, the streetlight outside was shining on the window, radiating its light on the glass.  I thought it looked pretty cool.

Sleepover Scene (158/365)

2009 06 07 IMG_6014
“The essence of childhood, of course, is play, which my friends and I did endlessly on streets that we reluctantly shared with traffic.”

Bill Cosby (American Actor, Comedian and Producer. b.1937, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA)

TIME:  11:04 PM
PLACE:  The living room
SUBJECT:  DramaQueen, her BFF and various Little People

DramaQueen asked to have her BFF spend the night.  I agreed and they have giggled, whispered and banished StellaDella from playing with them...eliciting a waterfall of tears from SD and a lecture from me about being nice and would they please include the little sister for 30 minutes; and then an explanation to SD about how sometimes older kids need time alone to play with their friends.  Here, they have unearthed all of our Little People figures, houses, garage, farm and other accessories from the basement and have set up an elaborate scene in the living room.
