“One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?”

StellaDella’s Daisy scout troop had a sleep-over at the school this evening for their final activity of the school year. I bit the bullet and volunteered to spend the night and help out with the activities. They ate pizza and salad; gussied up dollar store flip flops with strips of fabric; decorated hair elastics with tulle and handcrafted yarn pom poms; did some dancing with the Wii and finally watched “The Tooth Fairy” and “Akeelah and the Bee” while eating popcorn and nachos. The last girl fell asleep about 1:45am Saturday morning. Yeah, I’m tired.

Birthday Cupcakes (041/365)
“Six! Six! I’m six! I’m six! I’m six years old today!
Yeaaaaaaah!
I’m six! I’m six! I’m six years old today!
I’m more than one.
I’m more than two.
I’m more than three.
I’m much more than four.
I’m even more than five.
Can you guess how old I am?”

StellaDella spent her 6th birthday at home sick today. But, she had company – DramaQueen – who has a nasty upper-respiratory infection. Good times, good times. We are having the family party on Friday at my brother’s house, a combo party with my niece Brandi whose 18th birthday is tomorrow. I hope everyone recovers by then. SD requested a “Bolt” (from the animated movie) cake from the grocery store for the party and that has been ordered. Today, though, she and I made a chocolate batter (from scratch even, just call me Martha Stewart!) and she wanted to bake it as cupcakes and one single round layer, all with red frosting. What the birthday girl asks for, she receives. I arranged the cupcakes in the shape of a “6” – she thought that was pretty neat. I fear that I will not be able to impress her much longer with little things like this – she’s growing up too fast. Happy Birthday StellaDella!

A Shot In The Arm (335/365)

I was a good mom, finally. The county had seasonal influenza vaccinations available and so I took the kids to get their flu shots. I picked them up from school at 2:30pm. They were excited to leave school a half hour early. That excitement lasted about 5 minutes until I told them where they were going. MonkeyBoy volunteered to go first and he took his shot like it was nothing. DramaQueen followed suit, I got mine, then it was StellaDella’s turn. She was a little more vocal about the initial stick, but she recovered quickly.
On another note, a couple of weeks ago, HandsomeHusband purchased SD 4 additional goldfish to keep Dorothy company. This evening, we had a tragedy…we found a “floater” in the goldfish aquarium. The deceased was one of the new guys. SD did NOT take it well. RIP my gold friend, RIP.
