I started this blog way back in 2009 (holy crap!).  There were a few years when I didn't post everyday, or even at all (2019, I'm looking at you), but I've pretty much kept at it for 11, now going on 12 years.

It's interesting going back into my archived photo folders and seeing the pictures I decided against posting for the day.  They bring back good, bad and bittersweet memories.  A lot of yearning for days gone by creeps in.

Another feeling that returns?...The memory of agonizing over each post and image.

Not gonna lie, I think a LOT of my earlier stuff leaves much to be desired and, I will admit, was/is pretty pretentious.

The photo I did for this day, is okay. It goes along with the post.  But going back through the folder, I like this photo better.  SD's hair is so red here.  It is also un-brushed and tangly...it seemed like it always was.  It drove HH nuts - which was always fun to watch. LOL

I discovered this teeny-tiny green bug crossing on the Gerber daisy’s petals while I was reviewing my photos.  I didn’t notice him when I was taking the shot. 

I am amazed that my small camera can capture such details.

MB’s class read “The Outsiders” in his Language Arts class this last quarter.  They had the option of dressing up like a “Greaser” or a “Soc” today.  MB chose to be a “Greaser”  It took a ton of pomade to style his hair and I bet it’s going to take a ton of shampoo to wash it out tonight.

Well, she made it to fourteen.  At noon, I picked her up from school and took her out for a birthday lunch.  At 3:30, she and SD had hair appointments – SD got a trim and DQ got highlights.  Here she is taking a picture of her birthday coiffure to text to her friends.  I may be biased, but I definitely see a beautiful young lady.  Happy Birthday my lovely daughter!

SD’s 1st grade class and their 4th grade buddies had a special “Polar Express” activity this morning.  I was one of the parents who volunteered to help out.  They were able to wear their pajamas to school for this fun day.  Tickets were hidden in their backpacks and after they found them, they needed to count coins to purchase the price indiciated on the ticket.  Then they “boarded” the train, listened to the story of the Polar Express, drank hot cocoa and ate chocolate from silver platters, met Santa - who gave them a bell from his reindeer harness - and then went to three areas of Santa’s workshop for activities.  There, they made a necklace with their bell, wrapped presents, cut out cookies and painted a scene from what they imagined they saw while looking out of the train window.  After that, they “boarded” the train again, sang songs and finally returned to the classroom in time for lunch.  They had to keep hold of their ticket to do all the activities – SD decided that the safest place to keep her ticket was in her hair.  Only my child.

MB prefers to have his hair short, in fact, his philosophy is the shorter the better.  Ever since he was a toddler, I’ve been bringing him to my beautician, Carol, to have his hair cut.  She adores him.  She loves to tell her customers the story about a time when MB was about 11 months old.  While she was cutting my hair, he was wandering around the shop and jabbering to himself.  All of a sudden, we noticed that it had gotten quiet.  Carol looked up from my haircut to see how he was doing and burst out into laughter.  MB had proceeded to climb up a chair and had plopped down into the sink where she washes hair.  There he was, calmly sitting cross-legged in the middle of the bowl.  She wishes she had a camera handy that day as she says it was a perfect Kodak moment.  He had no climbing into sinks this afternoon, just a haircut with the #4 blade.

I’ve been covering-up the ever growing, pesky grey roots in my hair for a number of years now.  The events of two weeks ago (Dad and his “memory glitch” - Thanks Dad!) accelerated my regularly scheduled visit to the beauty shop.  My appointment with my hairdresser was at 10am this morning.  One of these days I hope to embrace my sign of aging and let the silver-haired flag fly proudly…today, however, is not that day.

I was informed late last night that today would be “Crazy Hair Day” for the last day of Daisy Camp.  Silly me assumed that we still had colored-hair spray in the house.  I found out at 7:45 this morning that this was not so as DramaQueen had used it all up during one of her sleepovers.  So SD and I hightailed it to Walgreen’s to get new spray.  She decided on a purple hue (although I am surprised that she didn’t chose the black spray and go Goth) and back in the car, I quickly put her hair up in four crazy ponytails and sprayed them violet.  She was happy and we made it to camp in plenty of time ~ we even were able to stop and help another turtle cross the road…Success!

DQ has been gunning for a new hairstyle for the past couple of months and today was the day.  Her hair used to be a shoulder length bob.  Now, it is graduated in the back and to the middle of her ears on the sides.  She kept her bangs long and went for a criss-cross part.  It makes her look older – which is exactly what she wanted.  Lord help us.

Today was an ordinary day.  HandsomeHusband went to work, the kids went to school, I went to work, everyone came home, SD, DQ and I went to buy new shoes for SD and DQ, we ate dinner and afterwards the kids watched “The Simpsons.”  Unexciting.  I found something beautiful to photograph though.  SD was sitting on the couch watching the show and paging through MonkeyBoy’s book, “The Encyclopedia of Immaturity, Volume 2," when the sun streamed through the front window, illuminating her hair.  I love how it glows in the early evening light.  Ever since she was born, whenever we have gone out with her, people have stopped us and told us that they love her red hair.  If I had a dollar for each time that has happened, I would be a very rich woman.

StellaDella has the worst static-y, fly-away hair these days.  I actually used a dryer sheet on her hair this morning before she went to Sunday School.  As I was taking the tree down she stood by the front window and her hair was sticking out all over the place.  I guess we need to turn on the humidifier and to add hair conditioner to the shopping list.
