PLACE: The Edge
SUBJECT: Seats

The girls and I went to see the remake of “Poltergeist”
I remember watching the original on HBO when I was 15.
The remake was not as good at the first one…although, I did think Sam Rockwell did a great job (loved him since his role as Wild Bill in “The Green Mile”)
I need to get them to see the original.

This little guy turns 73 years old today,
I made him a strawberry and a chocolate pie.
He made an apple and a cherry pie.
We had quite the pie feast at his house.

School Picnic (138/365)

“I once asked my father for a dollar for the school picnic. He told me how he once killed a grizzly bear with his loose-leaf notebook.”
―Bill Cosby

PLACE:  Park
SUBJECT:  School district picnic

The annual parade and school picnic was today.

This is my 11th year and I have sunk to sitting at a table under a pavilion.
I established
a base camp, while my youngest child ran around, spending an ungodly amount of money on carnival rides, food and beverages.

Seat holder and personal ATM.
That’s me.

One good thing.
I had the perfect spot to take this picture of them on the slide without having to move from my seat.

Camping-Day 2 (137/365)

20150517 IMG_6160
I took a walk in the woods and came out taller than the trees.
Henry David Thoreau

TIME:  Morning
PLACE:  Camp
SUBJECT:  Hiking Views

We woke up to more rain this morning.
The girls were supposed to do some archery, but it was too wet.
We went on a (muddy) hike instead.

20150517 IMG_6157
The girls called this area “The Desert”
Massive rocks covered the ground.
Once we re-entered the forest though, mud was the name of the game.

20150517 IMG_6167
An old root cellar was found.

20150517 IMG_2305
The roof had collapsed and it was filled with water.

20150517 IMG_6166
This graniteware pot was near the cellar, a spot of blue among the green and brown.

20150517 IMG_6168
The trail ended on the main camp road.
We saw a turtle making his way across.
He hid when we caught up to him.

20150517 IMG_6172
On the way back to our camp, we passed the cabooses where the Cadettes were staying.
Stella had the option to camp here, but she stayed in these last fall and wanted to try the tree houses this time.
*~*~*
Of course, as we were leaving, the sun came out.

“It always rains on tents. Rainstorms will travel thousands of miles, against prevailing winds for the opportunity to rain on a tent.”
Dave Barry

TIME:  10:32 AM to
PLACE:  Camp Butterfly, Farmington MO
SUBJECT: Scenes from Camp

Stella and I went camping with the Girl Scouts.
It was raining when we arrived.
And it rained off and on pretty much all day.

Stella found this guy in the bathhouse.

20150516 IMG_2292
During one of the breaks in the rain, it stopped long enough for the girls to go canoeing.
Stella and her friend Devin paddled while I rode in the middle.

20150516 IMG_6125
After we returned to shore, they gathered clay and mud from the shallow water.

20150516 IMG_6129
Stella gave my feet a mud treatment.
