I made this wreath for St. Patrick’s Day.

I did use burlap instead of ribbon to cover the wreath form.
I also attached the flowers with Velcro so I can change them out after St. Patrick’s Day if I want.

SUBJECT: School project
StellaDella brought home a school assignment on Friday to make a trap to catch Libby the Leprechaun who has been playing sneaky tricks in the 1st grade classroom. SD told me that leprechauns like things that are shiny and are tricky and often disobey. For example, did you know that a curious leprechaun cannot resist climbing a ladder that expressly states “DO NOT CLIMB LADDER!”? I didn’t…I’m learning something new all the time. Thus we spent part of the day on Sunday, painting a shoebox green and assembling the trap. We have the aforementioned ladder with sign and a treasure box overflowing with shiny “free gold” (beads and coins from Saturday’s parade and some gold buttons from the craft stash) to lure the little sprite in its doom. If it works, we get three wishes in exchange for its release. Fingers crossed!

The Ancient Order of Hibernians had it’s St. Patrick’s Day parade this morning with twenty-six Irish clans participating. There were bagpipers, floats, antique cars, a couple of bands and plenty of green and gold beads. MonkeyBoy, his friend, StellaDella, Oreo and I went downtown to watch (DramaQueen spent the night a friends and was watching it further down the parade route). This little dog, with its coat dyed green, was walking with a group. Oreo got a little rambunctious at the sight of this green dog…I think she thought it was some odd breed of cat.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I am not a bit Irish, but I wore green today anyway. StellaDella had me add green food coloring to her oatmeal this morning at breakfast. It didn’t look very appetizing to me, but she enjoyed it. Unfortunately for HandsomeHusband I did not make corned beef and cabbage for supper…I think he plans on making some this weekend. He loves it, but I do not care for it myself. He is more than welcome to cook it, I won’t stop him, because that means I do not have to make dinner and that is a good thing!

SUBJECT: Shamrock plant
I guess that it makes sense that I am using a picture of a Lucky Shamrock Plant (Oxalis regnellii) which is actually native to South America and not Ireland. After all, I'm not Irish either. Not one little bit. Sicilians (Dad's) and Czechs (Mom's) make up my ancestors - quite the combination huh? (If I told you my Sicilian maiden name, you would instantly recognize it - it is the same as the name of a famous gangster - and then I'd have to kill you. *wink*) In any case, this particular plant that we see in many grocery stores, garden and home centers, is not Irish either (as opposed to the Irish wood sorrel, Oxalis acetosella). But it is ideal for today, because it is green, has pretty flowers and the prerequisite three leaves. St. Patrick is said to have used a clover with its three leaves on one stem to illustrate the trinity to the people he was converting. Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Another date night with the HandsomeHusband. It was at the same place as last month, but this time, it had a St. Patrick's day theme. HH was able to eat some corned beef and cabbage, something he likes, but I don't care for. Hence, I don't make it for him like I should and he has to resort to outside services. The poor guy. I really need to do better. They had a DJ who played mainly nostalgic 50's music. HH and I slow-danced together three times...something we haven't done for awhile. It was very nice. I love slow dancing with him and this time I even let him lead!
