Nuts (024/365)

20171129_210116_e
TIME: 9:01 PM
PLACE: Living room
SUBJECT: Nuts

My mom used to roast nuts in the winter – pecans, walnuts and my very favorite, filberts (that’s what she always called hazelnuts) – She would place a bowl of them on the coffee table in the living room for us to eat.

In that tradition, I bought a small mixed bag of nuts at the grocery store on Sunday, roasted them and placed them on my coffee table in a wooden bowl.

Time to get crackin’…

SUBJECT:  Cocoa puffs

Looks like the aliens are moving from farmers’ fields to my cereal bowl.  I’m not sure what this means to the human race.  Probably nothing.

“Beans, beans, the magical fruit
The more you eat, the more you toot
The more you toot, the better you feel
So have some beans at every meal!”

~Schoolyard saying

Ham and beans is on the menu for tomorrow night.  I picked up a bag of dried Great Northern beans on my lunch hour today.  Before he went to bed, HH put them in my favorite red Pyrex bowl (#404, 4-quart) to soak overnight.

The Release (152/365)

2010 06 01 IMG_1038w
“Having children is like having a bowling alley installed in your brain”

Martin Mull (American Actor. b.1943, Chicago, Illinois, USA)

TIME:  10:12 AM
PLACE:  Bowling Alley
SUBJECT:  StellaDella

I signed the kids up at www.kidsbowlfree.com.  We live pretty close to the bowling alley so I figured this would be an inexpensive thing to do this summer.  We only have to pay for shoe rental.  (When did THAT go up to $3.00 a pair?)  DramaQueen became frustrated because she kept making gutter balls, and groused that SD only did well because SHE had the bumpers when she bowled.  I pointed out that SD was 6 and when DQ was 6, SHE used the bumpers as well.  Also, it had been some time since she bowled and with this program, she should get better at it each time we went.  DQ then sulked that she didn’t want to bowl anymore because “it’s too hard.”  Too bad, girlie, I told her, we’re going bowling this summer *and* she and MonkeyBoy are going to learn how to manually keep score.  It’s good math practice and knowing how to figure a bowling score is something everyone should know how to do.  I got the old eye rolls from DQ when I announced this.  I’m such a mean mom who likes to torture her children.  I live for it.

After 'While Crocodile (109/365)

2009 04 19 IMG_4223
"To sit back hoping that someday, some way, someone will make things right is to go on feeding the crocodile, hoping he will eat you last - but eat you he will."

Ronald Reagan (American, 40th President of the United States, 33rd Governor of California,  actor, 1911-2004)

TIME: 8:32 PM
PLACE: The kitchen sink
SUBJECT: Schleich crocodile figurine

I've mentioned before that water attracts StellaDella like a magnet.  One of her favorite things to do is play in the sink and give her toys a bath.  We have a collection of Schleich animals that we have been accumulating since my oldest was a toddler.  These are the toy figurines that are lucky enough to get bathed.  You can't see it, but there is a cow underneath the bubbles.  I guess the poor thing got too close to the crocodile's jaws.
