Try not to be jealous of how much fun we are having.
“A little drowsing cat is an image of a perfect beatitude”

The heat wave continues. Even though we are blessed with central air-conditioning (and I am eternally grateful for that fact!), the heat still causes both man and beast here to be drowsy and languid, especially in the late afternoon. Jack is extraordinarily good at stretching out on the cool leather of the couch and taking a little nap.
“I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom.”

We arrived back home from camp around noon; StellaDella had a bath around 2pm; fell asleep soon thereafter on her bed; woke up around 4pm; got dressed; came downstairs, laid down on the couch and proceeded to go to back to sleep. She slept through dinner and is still out. I guess camping did wear her out after all.
“It always gives me a shiver when I see a cat seeing what I can't see.”

SUBJECT: Jack
Jack spied a ladybug that was on the ceiling and jumped to the arm of the sofa to get a better look. Except for the swishing of his tail, he was as still as a statue gazing up at the bug. He was not successful in capturing his prey.

Neal: Del... Why did you kiss my ear?
Del: Why are you holding my hand?
Neal: [frowns] Where's your other hand?
Del: Between two pillows...
Neal: Those aren't pillows!

I received some money from my dad for Christmas and this is what I purchased with part of it – pillows for the living room couch. I know, I know, you can hardly contain yourself from the excitement of it all. This is when you know you are an old, boring, married lady – you spend your Christmas money on decorative accessories for the house and then, to top it off, you take a picture of it for your blog. I am so stinking pathetic.
“On my velvet couch reclining,
Ivy leaves my brow entwining,
While my soul expands with glee,
What are kings and crowns to me?”

SUBJECT: New Leather Couch
After 12+ years, our old couch had done its time and was due to be retired. It had been through 4 cats, 3 kids and 1 dog. It had been jumped on, eaten on, thrown-up on, and urinated on. (I will not go into other activities that have been performed on said couch. This is a family-friendly blog.) When I sat on either corner of it, my derriere would sink to the ground. The upholstery covering the cushions was becoming threadbare. It also retained a certain smell that even an entire bottle of Febreze could not rectify. It was time for it to go. Last Sunday, I looked at couches and I ended up choosing this leather one. It was delivered this afternoon. The dog is being trained to stay off of it – she has her own upholstered chair to sit on – I wish I could do the same with the kids!
