SUBJECT: Front door
This is what can happen when you have dogs and don't train them properly to stop jumping when someone is at the door.
I will have to some sanding and re-staining...but there will still be a bit character on that wood.

SUBJECT: Moth
Stella found this guy in the grass.
Not sure what happened to him.
He can’t fly, he was just fluttering on the ground, turning over and over on his back
I’m pretty sure he is not long for this world.

These scratches have been on our front door since we bought the house.
Not sure how they got there, but I like them – I consider them “character”

How much longer before the birds start to nest?
I am so ready for spring.
Down goeth the grass, soon wrought to withered hay; Ay me alas, ay me alas, that beauty needs must yield And princes pass, as grass doth fade away.

SUBJECT: Our lawn
The bad news…the heat and drought conditions have really taken a toll on our (and everybody else’s) lawn.
The good news…HH doesn’t have to mow in this weather.

SUBJECT: Clover – dried out from the heat
Another scorcher today – it got up to 106 for our 9th day of over 100 degree heat. But they are predicting thunderstorms (maybe) tomorrow night. It will be too late for these guys though.
"Seems the caterpillar has emerged from its cocoon as a shark, a shark with a gun for a mouth. Touché."
Mr. Burns, C.E. D’oh, The Simpsons, Season 14, Episode 15, air date: 16 Mar 2003.
TIME: 10:29 PM
PLACE: Front porch
SUBJECT: Cocoon
I was trying to take a photo of the moths that were flitting around our front porch light. I’ve never seen so many, so early in the spring – I guess they are all out due to the unseasonably warm weather we are having. I was not successful, however. So, instead, I went with this cocoon hanging on the Purple Sand Cherry. Don’t know what will be emerging from it…more than likely a moth like the ones I was trying to photograph.
“The world is mud-luscious and puddle-wonderful.”

This is the sight that greeted me as I pulled into the driveway this evening - SD wallowing in a mud puddle. We had waves of thundershowers most of the day and the rain collected in the ruts that had formed underneath the swings. It turned the depressions into lovely, muddy quagmires, perfect for sloshing and mucking about. And of course, that is one siren song that SD cannot resist.

Yep. This is all I’ve got today. Not very exciting, but I do like the texture and pattern of this photo. So there’s that.

SUBJECT: Brownie Girl Scout Membership Pin
StellaDella participated in a “World Thinking Day” (a special day set aside for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts to think about their sisters around the world) activity today with her Brownie and Girl Scout troop. That meant I had to finally get around to attaching her pins, badges and patches to her Brownie vest so she could be “official”. In fact, I had to make a trip to the Council shop earlier in the week to replace the pins that were given to her by the troop because I had no idea where they were in the house. Miss Organized, that’s me!
Chief Wiggum: Ooh, and here, out of the mists of history, the legendary esquilax, a horse with the head of a rabbit and the body of a rabbit. [the rabbit hops out of its pen] Oh, it's galloping away.
Lisa: [chasing it] Here, bunny bunny. Here, bunny.
Chief Wiggum: [correcting her] "Here, esquilax".

This bunny is made of concrete and will not gallop away. I think….I hope. If it does, I’m betting that the zombie apocalypse will be close behind.
"Corn wind in the fall, come off the black lands,
come off the whisper of the silk hangers,
the lap of the flat spear leaves."

SUBJECT: Corn stalks in a muddy field
A rainy fall morning. I drove the kids to school then went to Wal-mart (yuck) for some grocery shopping. Since it was a Tuesday, it wasn’t too crowded and fairly tolerable. I even got a flu shot while I was there…no waiting. On the drive back to the house, I stopped to take a quick photo of one of the many end-of-the-season cornfields I passed along the way.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993 TV Series), Episode: Homefront (1996)
TIME: 8:18 AM
PLACE: Front porch
SUBJECT: Polyphemus Moth - Antheraea polyphemus
This guy has been hanging out on our front porch for the past two mornings. He's huge and fuzzy and I am fascinated by his antennae. After knocking out my picture for the day, I headed over to St. Louis to meet my sister at the Goodwill outlet and several other thrift stores. This was our way to celebrate the kids being at school for their first full day of the 2011-2012 school year.
“A lucky person is someone who plants pebbles and harvests potatoes.”
Greek proverb
TIME: 8:41 PM
PLACE: Kitchen
SUBJECT: Potatoes
It was time to dig up our 2 potato plants. This is the bountiful harvest they produced. I guess it would have been easier (and cheaper) to buy a 10lb bag at the grocery store. However, I know for certain that these are organically grown potatoes. THAT fact alone should add another $2 or $3.00 to the value don’t you think?
