*~*~*
I needed puffy chicken tacos and a drink tonight.

This entrance is no longer utilized.
I remember picking up my niece from this door in the mid 1990’s when they had a pre-school here.
TIME: 8:54 PM
PLACE: Front of St. Mary’s Church
SUBJECT: Door & shadows
It was very hot today, so we needed to wait until it cooled a bit before tonight’s walk with Mulder. So it commenced a little later than usual.
It worked out well.
The lights in front of the church made great shadows on the front door.

SUBJECT: Oreo, Mulder and Jack
I was outside trying to take a few pictures.
They were all waiting for me to come back in the house.

PLACE: St. Louis
SUBJECT: Door on loading dock
Claudia, her boyfriend Blake, Stella and I went to Cherokee Street in St. Louis for it’s 1st Cherokee Caravan Antiques and Art Bazaar.
It was very warm this morning, I didn’t purchase anything, however, Stella found a cool puppet with a papier-mâché head.
And I took a picture of this door.

PLACE: Home
SUBJECT: Front door
These scratches have been on our front door since we bought the house.
Not sure how they got there, but I like them – I consider them “character”
TIME: 7:39 PM
PLACE: N 11th Street
SUBJECT: Flag in front of row house
HH and I ate supper at 10th Street Bakery with some friends.
When we left, the setting sun was throwing some nice light on the buildings.
Supposedly, this row house was originally located at the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis as housing for the workers.
After the fair was over, it was dismantled and re-built here in town.

PLACE: Bathroom
SUBJECT: Doorknob
One of my religious beliefs is that there is a special place in hell for those people who paint their door hardware.
Honestly, if you are painting a door, take the time to remove the damn things from the door and the frame.
As part of the never-ending bathroom remodel, I stripped the old bathroom door of 4 layers of paint – I’m pretty sure the bottom one was lead-based. No precautions were taken, so I’ve probably lead poisoning as well.
Then I stained it - Twice! The first stain was waaay too orange – I re-stained it with an Ebony stain. It looks much better and almost matches the vanity base – Bonus!
Finally, I boiled, scraped, stripped and scrubbed off the paint from the hinges, knobs and plate hardware.
Alas, after I removed all of the paint, the metal underneath looked horrible could not be saved.
So, I confess, I will be joining the painting heathens in their eternal life of hell and brimstone.
In my defense, however, I did use a metallic spray paint to match the sink and shower fixtures.
So there.

PLACE: New Harmony, Indiana
SUBJECT: Atheneum/Visitors Center
We took a day trip to New Harmony, Indiana today. I expected the children to be completely bored. Surprisingly, only one was cranky – DramaQueen (go figure).

We took the walking tour and were able to enter into several buildings that are only open to visitors with a guide.
TIME: 12:47 PM
PLACE: Outside the Antheneum

It took about two hours. StellaDella asked some questions that impressed the tour guide (That’s my girl!) Afterwards, MonkeyBoy even stated that it was “More interesting than I expected”

PLACE: State Route 66
SUBJECT: The now closed New Harmony Toll Bridge
Remember this bridge? I drove across it in November of 2010. It closed on May 21, 2012 due to structural deficiencies. It’s still a cool looking bridge.

DQ took this photo of Oreo and Jack looking out the front door. I don’t know what they were looking at, but apparently, it was interesting.

SUBJECT: Improvised door stop
(Taken with my crappy cell phone camera because the batteries died in my PowerShot-Grrrrrrr)
When I entered the vestibule at work this morning, I saw this case of Budweiser Select holding open the door. What you can’t see behind me are many, many more cases of beer (and a few cases of soda). Why? The office building annual bar-be-que is tomorrow. Here’s hoping it won’t get rained out. Speaking of rain – we were hit with more storms this afternoon. DramaQueen surprised me by keeping me company on the front porch for awhile…until she saw this cloud formation:
Then she headed for the basement. The clouds turned out to be more bark than bite – our area ended up with just some rain and a bit of wind.

SUBJECT: Body damage on the Corvette
So, yesterday, we were flying merrily down Highway 55 in HandsomeHusband’s pride and joy – his Corvette. We had driven up to Podunk to visit with Miss Dana and had a lovely time. We had been on the road for the return trip for about 3.5 hours. I was just beginning to check my eyelids for leaks, and was almost in a Zen-like state, when I simultaneously heard HH swear and a big “CLUNK” of something metal being caught in the front wheel well and then bouncing off of the passenger side door. Ugh…that’s not something you want to hear. When he could, HH drove onto an exit ramp, pulled over on the shoulder and we both got out to assess the damage: Let’s see, we have a blemish on the front bumper; some minor damage to the wheel well and this: an ugly gouge on the passenger door. Bum-mer. Does anyone know a good auto body repairman who specializes in fiberglass?

SUBJECT: Steamy windows
I was boiling pasta for dinner this evening when DramaQueen went outside with the dog. She left the main door open and the steam from the pot covered the storm door with a layer of condensation. StellaDella noticed this and was attracted to the windows like a moth to a flame. I didn’t have my camera out quick enough (I left the card in the computer, so I was fumbling about for a little bit) to catch her in the illegal act of drawing on the window. She “erased” her pictures before I could snap a photo. However, I did manage to capture some evidence of her masterpiece in the bottom right corner of this photo. Busted.
Alice: [looking through the Doorknob's keyhole] There he is! I simply must get through.
Doorknob: Sorry. You're much too big. Simply impassable.
Alice: You mean impossible.
Doorknob: No, impassable. Nothing's impossible.

SUBJECT: Doorknob face
Ever since my "Unhappy Toast" picture on Saturday, I’ve been keeping an eye out for faces in other inanimate objects. This face in the doorknob was neither difficult, nor surprising to find. Ever since I was young, even before I ever saw Alice in Wonderland, I always thought these types of doorknobs looked like faces and if I turned them too hard, they might yell at me. I know, I’m strange. HandsomeHusband would be the first to tell you that sometimes, I’m just not right in the head.

SUBJECT: Door on building (you will need to *click* on the picture for the best effect)
We went out to for supper tonight – Italian! My dad and a friend of ours joined us at the restaurant. Afterwards, I rode back with my dad so I could go to his house and help him with some computer issues. As we passed through the town of Millstadt, I noticed this door and the sign on it. I found it quite amusing and mentioned to Dad that I would have to get a picture of it at some point. He asked if I had my camera – but of course! -and then he turned the car around so I could take a photo. Thanks Dad!
