Throwback Thursday (098/365)

TIME: 8 April 2007, 6:08 pm
PLACE: Backyard
SUBJECT: Leftover Egg Hunt item

*~*~*

12 years ago we had an Easter Egg hunt in the backyard.

This egg was not found and I snapped the picture when I was back out in the yard with Oreo.

Also?

Easter Egg hunts and the chocolate ingestion aftermath apparently cause children to crash on the couch.

Mama dove is no longer here – one egg disappeared from the nest last week (probably squirrels), and we found the shell of the other laying by the nest today.

Poor mama.

H-B Eggs (001/365)

TIME:  8:29 pm
PLACE: Kitchen
SUBJECT: Eggs

How do you know if an egg is hardboiled?
Why, it has an “H-B” stamped on it of course!

Full disclosure: I boiled 15 eggs.  I had to eat one because otherwise I would not have symmetry in my egg carton.  I cannot allow my eggs to be unbalanced.

~*~*~*~*~*~

While I have not been posting here, I have still been taking many pictures, although not daily. Mostly, I have been posting photos to Facebook and Instagram.

I miss challenging myself to posting a photo a day.

I miss my photo blog.

My husband told me he missed my pictures as well and wished I would start posting.

So here we go again…...

Bunny & Basket (090/366)

2-12 -3 30 _MG_2725w
Q. What does the Easter Rabbit get for making a basket?

A. Two points just like everybody else!

A really bad joke

TIME:  10:41 PM
PLACE:  Home
SUBJECT: Schieich rabbit figure & basket

The Schleich animal figures are a favorite around here and if I happen to come across one in my thrifting/yard sale/estate sale browsing, they come home with me.  I found this rabbit at a thrift store along with this tiny basket.  I believe the duo set me back a whole quarter.  This bunny looks like a rabbit we use to own many years ago by the name of Peter Rabbit.  DramaQueen named him herself.

The Future Is Here (181/365)

I'll mourn for my love,
I'll be chief mourner.”

TIME:  7:47 PM yesterday
PLACE:  Dad’s front porch
SUBJECT:  Mourning dove baby

I had every intention of taking photos at MonkeyBoy’s last ball game, but I didn’t.  Depending how you look at it, I am either a bad mother for not taking any photos or a good mother because I was too busy watching the game to do so.  I’m going with the good mother reason. ~*~*~ This is the same nest that was in my June 18th post.  Sadly, it looks like only one out of the two eggs hatched.

Tiny Futures (169/365)

2011 06 18 _MG_2793w
The present was an egg laid by the past that had the future inside its shell.

Zora Neale Hurston (American folklorist and Writer, 1903-1960)

TIME:  5:58 PM
PLACE:  Dad’s front porch
SUBJECT:  Dove eggs in a nest

We woke up this morning to tornado sirens at 6:30am – *grumble* I had not slept well all night and was not happy about having to get out of bed and go downstairs.  Luckily, we survived the storm without incident.  Later the sun came out and DQ was still able to go to Six Flags with her friends.  We finally had MB’s birthday party at my Dad’s house this evening.  While the HH was off getting the pizzas (MB’s dinner choice), Dad showed me where a dove was nesting in his hanging impatiens.  Because I am nosey, I went to get a closer look and ended up scaring the bird out of it’s nest (I really didn’t mean to do that)…but it allowed Dad to water the plant (only around the sides, away from the nest) and I was able to snap a quick shot of her two eggs.

Easter Basket (114/365)

“It is the hour to rend thy chains,
The blossom time of souls.”

Katherine Lee Bates (American songwriter. She is remembered as the author of the words to the anthem "America the Beautiful". 1859–1929)

TIME:  7:17 PM
PLACE:  Front Porch
SUBJECT:  My Easter basket

You know you are old when an Easter basket filled with flowers makes you happier than one filled with chocolate – Or maybe it’s because only I know where all the overflow chocolate from the Easter Bunny is hidden.
~*~*~
I posted on Facebook earlier that we had a tragedy this Easter morn…the sea monkey aquarium was knocked over (accidently by DramaQueen) and all were lost.  SD was devastated.  To quote her wails – “Why did it have to happen on a holiday!” – “I didn’t expect it to happen so quickly.”  Then a about 5 minutes later when she had calmed down - “Instead of sea monkeys, could we get something different?”

TIME:  8:10 PM
PLACE:  Living room
SUBJECT:  Homemade cloche filled w/ plastic eggs

Here is my small attempt at spring/Easter decorating.  A thrifted cheese dome with a wood base ($2.50) that I attached to a wooden candle holder (50 cents), then spray painted it all with a dark walnut stain, and finally, filled the glass dome with small plastic eggs (25 cents).  Voilà!…a decorating masterpiece.

Egg Sacs (058/365)

2011 02 27 IMG_0980w
Wilbur: Templeton, if you weren't so dopey, you'd notice that Charlotte has made an egg sac.
[Templeton gazes toward the ceiling and sees Charlotte's egg sac]
Templeton: [hiccups] Hooray for Charlotte.
Wilbur: She's going to become a mother. For your information, there are 514 eggs in that peachy, little sac.
Templeton: This has been a night

TIME:  2:33 PM
PLACE:  Yard waste container
SUBJECT:  Spider egg sacs

It actually became warm enough outside to get some yard work done this afternoon.  The HandsomeHusband and I pruned our trees…we still have some larger branches to take off, but the chainsaw is at the shop getting sharpened, so they will have to wait until Wednesday when it is ready.  I also cleared out the front flower beds of dead vegetation and leaves.  When I grabbed one of our plastic trash cans we use as a yard waste container, I saw these spider egg sacs attached to the inside walls.  From what I’ve read, each sac contains several hundred eggs, so there is probably a potential of around a thousand spiders in this photo.  As long as they stay outside, I’m good with that.

Breakfast For Supper (221/365)

TIME:  4:06 PM
PLACE:  Kitchen
SUBJECT:  StellaDella’s supper plate

Around once a month, I declare that we will be having “Breakfast For Supper.”  Usually it’s because we have things to do and places to be in the early evening and need something quick and easy to make or it’s because I’ve run out of ideas on what to make for supper.  Tonight it was a little of both – although I’ll admit that it was a bit more of the latter than of the former.

Eggs-xactly (101/365)

2009 04 11 IMG_3764
""A likely story indeed!" said the Pigeon, in a tone of the deepest contempt. "I've seen a good many little girls in my time, but never one with such a neck as that! No, no! You're a serpent; and there's no use denying it. I suppose you'll be telling me next that you never tasted an egg!"
"I have tasted eggs, certainly," said Alice, who was a very truthful child; "but little girls eat eggs quite as much as serpents do, you know."
"I don't believe it," said the Pigeon; "but if they do, then they're a kind of serpent: that's all I can say."

Lewis Carroll [Charles Lutwidge Dodgson] (1832-1898), British author, mathematician, clergyman. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, ch. V, Macmillan (1865)

TIME: 8:09 PM
PLACE:  Kitchen table
SUBJECT: Gratuitous dyed egg picture

I hard-boiled 34 eggs today.  10 eggs were eaten soon after boiling, by DramaQueen, her best friend and StellaDella.  1 egg was eaten by HandsomeHusband after dinner, and 1 egg was shared by DQ and SD after being dropped on purpose accidentally while we were dyeing them this evening.  So, if you've been keeping score, it's 12 eggs consumed, 22 eggs remaining.   SD is still campaigning to eat another egg before she goes to bed.  *Sigh* Apparently, I need to make hard-boiled eggs more often.
