On the way home from picking up supper I noticed the moon was pretty big.

I pulled into a parking lot with a decent unobstructed view and took some photos.

When I was pulling out of the parking lot, "Werewolves of London" started playing on the radio - I kid you not!  It was a very appropriate song.

Mulder apparently felt the full moon coming on earlier today.
 

He did some howling of his own 
(actually, he heard sirens, he always howls along with sirens).

(Dang, look at smear-age on the front door.  We may have some dogs living with us. LOL.

More blue skies and sun today.  So of course I guilted myself into doing yard work.

I cleaned out the front flowerbeds.  Now that they are clear, I see that I need to paint the trim on the porch. 

I know I am going to be plenty sore tomorrow just from the flowerbed clearing, so I'm not feeling bad about not painting today.

In other news, I upgraded my phone to the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.  It has up to 100x zoom (or "stalker mode" as I like to call it) 

I only went with the 30x for the moon this afternoon.

Looking forward to see what else this phone camera can do!

It was too cloudy last night to see the pinnacle of the Super Moon (where the moon is closest to the earth in its elliptical orbit), but I was able to snap a picture of it tonight instead.  According to NASA and contrary to popular belief, the closeness of this moon will not create any giant catastrophic events…the most it will do is could pull some tide waters a few centimeters higher than usual.  The best thing that happened today is that the spring equinox occurred at 18:20 hours – Hot damn and Hallelujah!

Today marks the official beginning of winter here in the Northern hemisphere.  Technically it began here at 5:38pm Central Standard Time.  I was cleaning up the dinner table when it started.  We ate a little earlier so DramaQueen and I could go shopping afterwards for some final Christmas gifts.  As we were leaving the mall (and it was torture being there, the crowds were killing me), we saw the full moon as it came out from behind the clouds for a brief moment.  It was nice to see.  We wished that we could have seen the lunar eclipse last night, but the sky was overcast and prevented us from observing it.

I feel like I wasted this day.  I messed around with the mountains of photos on my notebook, trying to get them in some semblance of order with Picasa.  I was able to delete several duplicate folders – over 2 gigs worth – more hard drive space for me!  I also gathered papers together for reimbursement from our medical savings account and I washed, dried and folded several loads of laundry; so I guess that I did get a little bit accomplished.  I still feel like I should have gotten more done.  Funny, I didn’t have much enthusiasm for doing anything during the day, but now that it is late at night, I am ready to get something done.  I need to adjust my biorhythms.

Well, Miss StellaDella has some sort of virus.  She spiked a 104 degree fever about 12:20 this morning.  She was talking in her sleep a mile a minute with the fever. Tylenol got her temp back down and her comfortable enough to where she could sleep peacefully.  Then about 5:30am the medication wore off and the cycle started again.  DramaQueen didn’t feel well this morning either, but she didn’t have a fever.  So a visit to the pediatrician was in order for strep tests and a flu test for SD.  The tests came back negative for both, so that means they have a virus, but not strep or the flu.  SD threw up in the exam room – right in the plastic trash can.  Poor little thing!  Rest, fluids and Tylenol is the prescription.  Hopefully in about 3 days this too shall pass.  Then I am sure that MonkeyBoy will come down with it as well.  They like to “spread the joy” to one another.  Why does it seem that sicknesses the only thing they really like to share?

Isn’t the moon beautiful tonight?  The Harvest moon (the full moon closest to the equinox) will occur on October 4th.    This full moon is known as the “Full Corn Moon.  Sometimes also called the Fruit Moon; such monikers were used for a full moon that occurs during the first week of September, so as to keep the Harvest Moon from coming too early in the calendar.”  (From SPACE.com).  Tomorrow night (Saturday), the moon is supposed to be the biggest and brightest of 2009 – be sure to go and check it out and maybe even take a picture.  I’m sure I will be out there again.

Once again, I left picture taking until the last minute.  I worked from 8:45am-1:45pm today, then made a quick stop at Target for some essentials (toilet paper!) and the grocery store.  Rushed home to put the cold stuff away then walked to school to register StellaDella for Daisy scouts at 3:00pm.  That meeting lasted until 4:30, then came back home to make dinner.  I sat down after dinner to catch my breath and the next thing I know, it’s 8:30pm (stupid internet).  And I have no picture.  DramaQueen suggested taking one of the moon.  I tried to do an artsy type shot.  I took quite a few and wasn’t happy with them.  I wanted the moon to be more defined.  HH yelled at suggested to me that I “use landscape mode”, so I tried again.  Still not what I wanted.  He played with the apeture and I tried a third time (with the neighbor’s dog barking at me).  Now it’s late, I’m tired and this is as good as it gets today.

Where did this Monday go?  It felt like I accomplished nothing that I really wanted to today.  I did get some errands run and made spaghetti and meatballs with garlic cheese bread and a salad for dinner.  But the next thing I know, it was time for MonkeyBoy's 8pm ball game.  They played a challenging team tonight and lost 14-9.  Bummer.  But, it was a beautiful evening, with mild temperatures and a breeze.  The moon was lovely as well.   I'll be able to see it change the next 2 nights as MB has another 8pm game tomorrow and a 6pm game on Wednesday.  Got to make up all those rainouts!

BTW, waxing and waning are used to describe the moon as it looks between its full and new phases. Waxing is when the part of the moon that you can see is increasing (getting bigger) while waning is when the part of the moon that you can see is decreasing (getting smaller).  Tonight's moon is First Quarter - which means that 1/2 of it is illuminated.  The next phase is called "Waxing Gibbous" which means the lighted part will be greater than half.  The next Full Moon will occur on July 7th.
