Soccer practice was on the agenda again for StellaDella this evening.  It goes without saying that she needed to use the facilities during the hour-long event.  Lucky for me, this weathered orange shed was located right next to the Johnny-On-The-Spots.

Dana and I went to the local flea market this morning before she headed home.  I’ve been searching for a certain something to place on my front porch to hide the 2nd entrance door ~ Our home was a duplex until we expanded and made it single housing and we don’t use the 2nd door at all ~ I wasn’t sure what I would put there, but I figured I would know it when I saw it.  One vendor had a two piece hutch made with weathered wood from an old barn.  Bingo.  I talked to the dealer who said she could take $35 off the price.  Tempting, but I didn’t commit right then.  I did take a picture with my cell phone to show HH later.  I showed him the photo and Dana, the enabler, *wink* agreed that it would look good on my porch.  So, dear Dana, due the the pressure that you put on me *ahem*, I caved.  After you left, I went back and purchased the hutch.  It fits the spot perfectly and I love it.  See, you can be a good influence!

HandsomeHusband completely tore down and rebuilt our back porch back in 2003.  He had stained the wood for the risers and treads as well as the decking.  Alas, the stain wore away, and we were left with weathered wood.  Also the treads are starting to split where he screwed them down.  The second step from the bottom finally split completely and he decided to use a composite material to replace the tread.  It wasn’t cheap - $19 for the one board, but we will not have to stain or paint it and it should last longer than the treated wood.  We have 5 more steps to replace…at $19 a pop that’s an additional $95.  I’m thinking we will be spreading it out and purchasing a board each pay period.  That way it will get done and we won’t be going into debt to do it.  At least that’s the plan, which is always subject to change.
