Pineapple (320/365)

He is the very pineapple of politeness!

Richard Brinsley Sheridan (Irish playwright and Whig statesman, 1751-1816) The Rivals (1775)

TIME:  8:34 PM
PLACE:  The kitchen
SUBJECT:  Pineapple

A very rainy, very dreary, very depressing Monday here in the Midwest.  After work, I went shopping at ALDI’s to pick up a few items and saw that they had pineapples on special for a mere $1.19.  Now pineapples do not ripen after they are picked and I’ll admit that they looked a little green.  However, this one does has a sweet scent, so I’m hopeful that it will taste pretty good anyway.  For the price I paid, I am willing to take a chance.  Plus, I will admit, another reason I bought it was that I thought it would make a good picture!

SUBJECT:  Bottles of milk

I had to go on a milk run tonight after taking MonkeyBoy to the batting cages again.  I prefer buying our milk in glass bottles – it just tastes better and it is better for the enviornment – less plastic!  I can remember when I was younger, we had a milkman come to our door every Saturday morning.  Mr. Junker was his name.  He would bring the milk into the kitchen and sometimes Mom would even buy us strawberry yogurt as a treat.  Once, I spent the night at my paternal grandparent’s and the next morning there was Mr. Junker delivering milk to them as well…I thought that was pretty neat that Grandma C. and I had the same milkman.  There is a dairy in St. Louis which offers home delivery, but I just can’t seem to get past the higher price it requries.

Close Cover Before Striking (191/365)

“You know what burns me? Matches.”

Jay London (American stand-up comic, b1966)

TIME:  8:55 PM
PLACE:  Kitchen Counter
SUBJECT:  Book of matches

I spent the majority of the day trying to clear my desk and de-clutter the desk drawers.  I have a corporate tax return to finish (the client has an extension) and I need a clear space in order to have a clear head to do it.  I found a container filled with books of matches.  I think I picked up the container at an estate sale earlier this year.  From the look of the ads on them, they appear to be from the mid-seventies.  I liked these red match-heads (most of the ones in the other books were white).  When I was younger, I remember you could collect books of matches from just about everywhere, especially restaurants.  I guess with the no-smoking laws we have now, they are harder to come by.  I can’t remember the last time I saw a bowl of them for the taking.

Orla Kiely - I Love You (118/365)

2009 04 28 IMG_4572
"A good upbringing means not that you won't spill sauce on the tablecloth, but that you won't notice it when someone else does."

Anton P. Chekhov (Russian, Physician, short-story writer and playwright, 1860-1904)

TIME: 7:24 PM
PLACE: Kitchen table
SUBJECT: Orla Kiely "Flowers" tablecloth

I saw this tablecloth at Target last week and just had to have it for one reason - it has orange in it!  I had painted my kitchen orange in November (see before and after here).  I did not realize how hard it would be to find rugs, dishtowels and tablecloths that would go well with that color.  I'm a little embarrassed to say that when I saw this at Target, I actually squealed in delight.  It's sad, really, how something like a tablecloth can make me so happy.  But it does!  I'm sure HandsomeHusband will be shaking his head at how goofy I am while reading this post.  I know honey, I'm whacko, but that's why you love me! *wink*
