Half-Assed Wish (105/365)

TIME: 4:50 pm
PLACE: Backyard
SUBJECT: Dandelion

*~*~*

I was trying to take a photo of a fluffy dandelion gone to seed - as if I have never, nor has anyone else ever, taken a photo of one of those before (that's sarcasm son) - when Miss Scully rudely pushed in front of me and stepped on it.

Full wish gone, just like that. Poof!

I am left with making a half-assed wish.

That's okay, a half-assed wish is better than no wish, right?

TIME: 7:26 PM
PLACE: Front yard
SUBJECT: Dandelion in seed

Do you think dandelions foresaw how we humans instinctively have a desire to blow on them and in the process, contribute to the reproduction of their species?

Dandelions are our overlords.

Underneath the Puff (187/366)

2012 07 05 IMG_4970w

Wish upon a dandelion because wishing on stars are so overrated.

TIME:  8:05 PM
PLACE:  Front yard
SUBJECT:  Dandelion gone to seed

I wanted to take a different perspective of the dandelion puff so I laid down on the ground and took a photo from underneath.  It kind of looks like fireworks.  I think I also caught a spider by the stem on the bottom left too – Happy Belated Independence Day!

PLACE:  Front Porch
SUBJECT:  Dandelions and a small grape hyacinth picked by StellaDella

SD picked the dandelions and gave them to me yesterday.  While walking home from school today, she snagged the purple bloom.  I *heart* wildflower bouquets, especially those given to me by my kids.

Dandelion For Domo (093/365)

2011 04 03 IMG_0572w
“Courtship consists in a number of quiet attentions, not so pointed as to alarm, nor so vague as not to be understood”

Laurence Sterne (Irish born English Writer, 1713-1768)

TIME:  7:19 PM
PLACE:  Front yard
SUBJECT:  Domo and Buzz Lightyear

How sweet!  Buzz has picked one of the first dandelions of the year and is presenting it to Domo.  I think Domo looks surprised and pleased to be the recipient of Buzz’s affections, no?

Make A Wish (272/365)

2010 09 29 IMG_3674w
"I was a dandelion puff...Some saw the beauty in me and stooped quietly to admire my innocence. Others saw the potential of what I could do for them, so they uprooted me, seeking to shape me around their needs. They blew at my head, scattering my hair from the roots, changing me to suit them. Yet still others saw me as something that was unworthy and needed to be erased."

Nicole Bailey-Williams (American, high school English teacher, a freelance writer, and former host of "The Literary Review”)

TIME:  6:42 PM
PLACE:  YMCA Soccer Fields
SUBJECT:  Dandelion seedhead

I wish I could lose 10 more pounds.
I wish laundry fairies were real.
I wish the dog didn’t shed so much.
I wish my oldest daughter could see how beautiful she is.
I wish there were 2 of me so I could do the things I want to do as well as all the things I have to do each day.
I wish that I could win the lottery and pay off all our debts.
I wish that I could give my Mom one more hug and kiss and tell her I love her.

Dandelions (101/365)

“It gives one a sudden start in going down a barren, stony street, to see upon a narrow strip of grass, just within the iron fence, the radiant dandelion, shining in the grass, like a spark dropped from the sun.”

Henry Ward Beecher (American, Congregationalist clergyman, social reformer, abolitionist, and speaker in the mid to late 19th century. 1813–1887)

TIME:  5:59 PM
PLACE:  Bike trail
SUBJECT:  Dandelions

DramaQueen rode the bike trail with me and Grandpa tonight.  I must say, she was a trooper and rode the entire 9 miles without complaining, even when I made everyone stop so I could take a photo of the dandelions that have gone to seed.  MonkeyBoy wants to come riding with us next.

Claritin Clear (112/365)

2009 04 22 IMG_4337
I used to wake up at 4 A.M. and start sneezing, sometimes for five hours. I tried to find out what sort of allergy I had but finally came to the conclusion that it must be an allergy to consciousness.

James Thurber (American author, cartoonist & humorist, 1894-1961)

TIME: 6:14 PM
PLACE: The backyard
SUBJECT: Dandelion

Just a gorgeous day today!  The temperature made it up to 72.7 degrees Fahrenheit (22.6 degrees Celsius).  My sister and I went walking after dropping the kids at Mother's Day Out.  My hair wasn't behaving and luckily my beautician was able to squeeze me in for a haircut right before their school let out.  That's the thing I don't like about short hair - it requires frequent trims to keep its shape.  After dinner I went outside and played around with the macro setting on my camera.  I went for a dandelion photo again.  I hope this doesn't cause anyone's allergies to act up!

Everything's Just Dandy (095/365)

2009 04 05 IMG_3404
“The dandelion's pallid tube
Astonishes the grass,
And winter instantly becomes
An infinite alas.”

Emily Dickinson (American Poet who has been called the New England mystic, 1830-1886)

TIME: 3:40 PM
PLACE:  The front yard
SUBJECT: Dandelion shadow

We woke up to a steady rain this morning.  It was fairly breezy as well.  The perfect day for a nap after stuffing myself at another honors brunch with DramaQueen.  When I awoke mid-afternoon, the sun was out and I wandered outside to see what photos I could take.  I took several photos of the dandelions, the bane of HandsomeHusband's perfect lawn existence.  Out of all of them, I liked this shadow photo the best.  Soon after I returned inside, the sky clouded over and it began to rain again.  April showers have arrived.  I hope everyone has had a wonderful and restful Sunday!
