My godchild and I returned to Dad’s house early this morning to decorate his front yard and car for his birthday.  We used Post-its, crepe paper, and 70 plastic forks.  Why forks in the lawn?  I have no idea.  It was something my mom and her siblings did to each other on their birthdays.  I should have filled his car with black balloons like I did for his 50th.


To make it up to him, I made his favorite birthday pie – strawberry glazed – and took it over to him this evening.  I hope I’m still in the will.

Today was one of those days where even though I did many things around the house, I really don’t have much to show for it.  One thing I do have to show for my efforts is this dessert: Blueberry Ice Cream Pie.  This pie has an almond-brown sugar crust followed by vanilla ice cream with a layer of blueberry sauce and is topped with whipped cream and fresh berries.  I made it as a birthday pie for Dad who joined us for dinner.  It was pretty tasty.

SUBJECT:  Lemon meringue birthday pie

Five days later, I finally made my birthday pie.  The meringue was not as fluffy as I would have liked it and as you can see, it is weeping.  But it is still some damn tasty pie.  I forsee a slice of pie and a large glass of milk for breakfast tomorrow morning.  Mmmm.
