"Roll over Beethoven, and tell Tchaikovsky the news."

Chuck Berry (American singer, songwriter, and guitarist, b.1926)

TIME:  10:22 PM
PLACE:  The Duck Room, Blueberry Hill, St. Louis, MO
SUBJECT:  Chuck Berry
(all taken with cell phone)

When I found out that Chuck Berry still puts on concerts about once a month at Blueberry Hill, I decided I needed to see him while I had the chance.  My Dad and brother Mike joined me.  I wasn’t expecting too much – I mean, the man turns 86 tomorrow (Oct 18th) – but I can honestly say, it was $35 well spent.  He put on a great show.  He was having a good time, so was the audience and he can still play a mean guitar.  Love you Chuck!

Sweet, Matthew, perf. "Girlfriend."
Girlfriend. Zoo Entertainment, New York City, 1991. CD.

TIME:  8:40-11:16 PM
PLACE:  The Duck Room, Blueberry Hill, St. Louis, MO
SUBJECT:  Stage and Matthew Sweet

Many years ago, my sister - who is now 36 and was under 21 at the time -and I went to see Matthew Sweet at Mississippi Nights in St. Louis.  Tonight, we went to see him again, this time at a sold out show at Blueberry Hill.  Matthew has changed a little bit in his appearance since then, but he still sounded awesome.  He played his entire Girlfriend album from beginning to end and as an encore, some songs from 100% Fun and Altered Beast.  Excellent show!

Blueberry Ice Cream Pie (149/365)

“I found my thrill
On Blueberry Hill
On Blueberry Hill
When I found you”

Lyrics by Rooney, John L. "Blueberry Hill." 1940. Perf. Fats Domino. 1956.

TIME:  6:08 PM
PLACE:  Kitchen
SUBJECT:  Dessert

Today was one of those days where even though I did many things around the house, I really don’t have much to show for it.  One thing I do have to show for my efforts is this dessert: Blueberry Ice Cream Pie.  This pie has an almond-brown sugar crust followed by vanilla ice cream with a layer of blueberry sauce and is topped with whipped cream and fresh berries.  I made it as a birthday pie for Dad who joined us for dinner.  It was pretty tasty.
