Many years ago, my sister - who is now 36 and was under 21 at the time -and I went to see Matthew Sweet at Mississippi Nights in St. Louis.  Tonight, we went to see him again, this time at a sold out show at Blueberry Hill.  Matthew has changed a little bit in his appearance since then, but he still sounded awesome.  He played his entire Girlfriend album from beginning to end and as an encore, some songs from 100% Fun and Altered Beast.  Excellent show!

Talent Show Emcee: [after the brass quintet performs] All right, yeah, listen to that applause! Whaddya say, Miss Talent Show? Extra good? No, super!

That Thing You Do!, Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, 1996

TIME: 6:54 PM
PLACE: Grade School
SUBJECT: StellaDella on stage

StellaDella performed in a talent show at her school this evening. Her talent? Singing along to “Jar of Hearts” – she did wonderful. I got it on video too. It takes a ton of courage to get up on stage and sing in front of a large group of people. I’m very proud of her.

Squidward: Good evening, and welcome to the first Annual Squidward Tentacles Talent Show. Sponsored by the Krusty Krab, home of the Krabby Patty... 'cause no one else would give it a home.

SpongeBob SquarePants. “Culture Shock." Season №: 1. Episode №: 10a. Airdate: September 18, 1999.

TIME:  7:12 PM
PLACE:  Grade School
SUBJECT:  MonkeyBoy

Our grade school’s annual talent show was held this evening.  MB showcased his abilities by playing his saxophone.  He played a tribute to the USA melody – God Bless America, Yankee Doodle and America the Beautiful.  He performed wonderfully.  In other news, DramaQueen had a tooth pulled earlier in the afternoon.  She had an issue with a baby tooth that just didn’t want to come out, even though the permanent tooth was in behind it.  She says that she is finally “un-numbed”…I think she is still a little loopy from the gas they used.

The Organist (261/365)

“Sing us a song, you're the piano man,
Sing us a song tonight.
Well we're all in the mood for a melody.
And you've got us feelin' alright.”

Billy Joel Piano Man. Columbia, 1973.

TIME:  6:56 PM
PLACE:  The Lincoln Theatre
SUBJECT:  Pre-Movie Entertainment

The kids and I did go to the movies tonight.  “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” was the show we saw.  The theatre that we go to has volunteer organists who play the pipe organ before shows on Friday and Saturday nights.  The kids enjoyed both the music and the movie.  SD was giggling throughout the film and DQ (who has read the book) said she liked it.  MB only went to the restroom twice during the show, a personal record!  I thought that it was pretty entertaining, funny and worth the $20 spent on admission and $13.25 dropped on sodas, popcorn and candy.
