Prickly Plant (098/366)

2012 04 07 IMG_3100w
What is this beast, she thought, with muscles on his arms like a bag of snakes? What is this moss on his legs? What prickly plant grows on his cheeks? What is this voice as deep as a dog?

Anne Sexton (1928-1974), U.S. poet. "Rapunzel."

TIME:  3:36 PM
PLACE:  Kitchen
SUBJECT:  Cacti

I needed a new water pump for a small fountain that I keep on my porch during the summer months.  DramaQueen accompanied me to Home Depot to search for one.  While we were there, she decided that she NEEDED a cactus for her room.  Why?  I don’t know.  Maybe because it’s a bit prickly, just like she can be sometimes.  Ha!

Every Rose Has Its Thorn (126/365)

2010 05 06 IMG_6520w
“Life is thickly sown with thorns, and I know no other remedy than to pass quickly through them. The longer we dwell on our misfortunes, the greater is their power to harm us.”

François-Marie Arouet aka “Voltaire” (
French Enlightenment writer and philosopher, 1694–1778)

TIME:  7:48 PM
PLACE:  Front yard
SUBJECT:  Thorns

Thorns are prickly, stabby and ready to draw blood – they mirror my feelings perfectly these days.  Ugh…I don’t like it.  Must. turn. attitude. around. and. quit. writing. like. William. Shatner.
