HandsomeHusband had a get-together for one of his organizations and the whole family was able to go for the fun. It was in Chester, Illinois, "Home of Popeye". According to Chester's website, this bronze statue is 6-foot tall and weighs 900 lbs. The park, next to the Chester Bridge, honors Popeye's creator, Elzie Segar.

I love Popeye, although I will not let my kids watch the cartoon. I don't want them thinking that a woman (olive oyl) continuously attempting to escape rape at the hands of Brutus is funny in any way.
When we lived in the cities they starting putting up all the Peanuts statues, we had a park right by our apartment that had the Linus Statue, we went around and took tons of pictures with my daughter with the statues, I couldn't tell you where they are now...I am WAY to disorganized.
sarah - My kids kept asking who Popeye was. They thought we were talking about the chicken! *Sigh* I threatened to make them sit through the 1980 movie with Robin Williams and Shelley Duvall. But my HandsomeHusband said doing that would constitute child abuse. ;)
Very cool! I love Popeye!
I haven't seen Popeye in years!
Mari - Just the cartoons, or do you like the movie too?
Ev - Until last night, it's been awhile for me as well!
