Paw Balm (018/365)

TIME: 6:45 pm
PLACE: Kitchen
SUBJECT: Ingredients for Dog Paw Balm

*~*~*

That crazy dog lady (me) is at it again.

This time?  Homemade paw balm for the dogs.

Their pads are dry and rough, especially Mr. Mulder's.  I think that may be why he limps sometimes, because his paws are sore.

I found a recipe on the American Kennel Club's website.  I included vitamin E oil as well.

Now we'll see if Mr. Mo and Miss Scully will let me rub it on their paws.

If not, I think it will make a great balm for my dry hands!

Caution Sign (032/366)

2012 02 01 IMG_9676w
Of all forms of caution, caution in love is perhaps the most fatal to true happiness.

Bertrand Russell (English Logician and Philosopher 1872-1970)

TIME:  8:37 PM
PLACE:  Home
SUBJECT:  Sign

SD made this sign shortly after Mr. Blade Martin entered our household in December.  DramaQueen helped by printing “Caution! Loves EVERYONE!” as dictated by SD.  The sign hangs above Blade’s aquarium.  I hope that by posting this notice, we have limited our liability for any potential injuries that could result from gecko love.

The Cell (262/365)

2010 09 19 IMG_3516w
“Art is science made clear.”

Jean Cocteau (1889-1963), French author, filmmaker. repr. In Collected Works, vol. 9 (1950). "Le Coq et l'Arlequin," Le Rappel à L'Ordre (1926).

TIME:  6:11 PM
PLACE:  Dining room
SUBJECT:  DQ’s science project

DramaQueen was required to make a model of a cell (animal or plant) for a science project.  The only restriction she had in the materials she was allowed to use was “No Jell-O”!!! <== that makes me wonder what kind of disaster the science teacher had experienced in the past with this assignment.  DQ decided on making an animal cell and asked me for some help with ideas.  I suggested a banner made of felt and other fabrics and notions.  She went with it and her final project came together like this:

1.
  Cell Membrane – braided cording
2.
Cytoplasm – yellow felt
3.
Mitochondrion – orange foam with jumbo yellow rick rack
4.
Ribosomes – green tubular beads
5.
Lysosome – teal felt
6.
Golgi Body – red & gold wired ribbon
7.
Nucleus – purple felt
8.
Nucleolus – bottle cap with diamond glittered top.

The cell is attached to a backing of stiff white felt and the banner is hanging by orange yarn attached to a wooden dowel.  She did the majority of the work putting it together – I helped with retrieval of the crafting items and gave some input and directions when she asked me.  I hope I get a good grade!

Best. Card. Ever. (171/365)

Fatherhood is pretending the present you love most is soap-on-a-rope.

Bill Cosby (American Actor, Comedian and Producer. b.1937, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA)

TIME:  8:10 PM
PLACE:  Home
SUBJECT:  “Hapi foths bay” card

This morning, as I was in the bathroom, getting ready for the day, I could hear StellaDella talking to herself downstairs in the kitchen - “HA-HA-pa-ee, ha-PA-PA-ee, ha-pa-EE.  FA-FA-thrs, fa-TH-TH-rs, fa-th-SS-SS, DA-DA-a, Da-AY.”  She was silent for a bit, then she came upstairs into the bathroom with this card.  “I made this card for Daddy and figured out the words all by myself!  Do you think he will like it?” she asked.  Yes, SD, I do believe that he’s going to love it.  And he did.
