Simpsons In Real Life (204/365)

20180723_20180723_142508
TIME: 2:25 PM
PLACE: Work cafe
SUBJECT: Want Ad

Of course, when I saw this in the paper today, the first thing I thought of was the Simpsons….

"Bart's Inner Child" Season 5, Episode 7

Homer reads the "FOR FREE" section of the paper,

Marge asks Homer why he bothers reading that section of the paper. "They never have anything good." But as she finishes, Homer gasps at an ad he has just spied: "FREE TRAMPOLINE, 534 Center St."

Homer: Oh my God!
Lisa: What is it?
Homer: Tramapoline! Trampopoline! [runs out]
Bart: He said what now?
Marge: Please, don't bring home any more old crutches!

How An Accountant Wraps A Present (347/365)

2011 12 13 IMG_7683w
“I bought my brother some gift-wrap for Christmas. I took it to the Gift Wrap department and told them to wrap it, but in a different print so he would know when to stop unwrapping.”

Stephen Wright (American Actor and Writer, b.1955)

TIME:  11:58 PM
PLACE:  Desk
SUBJECT:  Employee gift exchange contribution

Tomorrow is the Christmas luncheon and gift exchange at work.  The gift exchange isn’t mandatory, but I decided to join in this year.  It’s one of those exchanges where you can “steal” gifts from co-workers.  The only stipulations were the gift value ($15) and you had to wrap it pretty.  I bought a $15 Starbucks card and then I went “green” with the wrapping.  I used a cereal box to place the gift in; then made the bow out of a jeweler’s advertising insert and wrapped the box with the stock section of the paper.  I think it’s rather festive myself.

Geodesic Dome (010/365)

2011 01 10 IMG_0679w
“Let architects sing of aesthetics that bring Rich clients in hordes to their knees; Just give me a home, in a great circle dome Where stresses and strains are at ease.”

Richard Buckminster Fuller (US engineer and architect, 1895-1983)

TIME:  6:21 PM
PLACE:  Grade school
SUBJECT:  Structure made of rolled newspapers

At StellaDella’s Daisy meeting tonight, we rolled newspapers and taped them into triangles to create a slightly wonky-geodesic-type dome.  I don’t know what the girls enjoyed more, building the dome or trying to stick as many pieces of tape as they could to the adult leaders.

Brain Games (189/365)

“Do I rue a life wasted doing crosswords?  Yes, but I do know the three-letter-word for regret.”

TIME:  9:30 PM
PLACE:  Kitchen
SUBJECT:  Newspaper

Sometimes you just gotta exercise your brain.  And it’s a nice change of pace from doing the laundry.
