"Auto racing, bull fighting, and mountain climbing are the only real sports ... all others are games."

Ernest Hemingway (American novelist and short-story writer, Won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954, 1899-1961)

TIME: 1:16 PM
PLACE: St. Mary's School basement
SUBJECT: Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Race

Monkeyboy's Cub Scout Pack had their Pinewood Derby races today. He and HandsomeHusband didn't even start to work on the car until earlier this week. They had me stenciling gold flames and the number "6" on the car this morning. Apparently they did something right. Monkeyboy didn't lose a single race! (His car is second from the right) He is very proud of his 1st place trophy. Don't you love the Kool-aid grin? HH simply cannot get over how fast the car was this year. He has a silly grin on his face too. It's cute.

I love the action shot - that's the one thing I can't get the hang of. WTG on winning! :-)

Congratulations to your son. I remember when my son did that and winning is a big deal! I love the action shot.

ETW - HH helped me with the settings and how to shoot the race. I still have to work on it though - by December 31st I'll be a pro - maybe.

Mari - It is a big deal to them isn't it? - we had a talk before the race about not crying if he didn't do well, but to know that whatever the outcome, he did his best. Since he won, I don't know if the conversation stuck!

Congrats to the young man! I see he opted for the simple "wedge" design too. I was just telling a friend about my boy's days in the cub scouts and how that wedge shape really did help the car to pick up a lot of speed. My boy never won but his car was usually good enough to get through several rounds!

Dot O - His was the most simple and unadorned car there. Simplicity works!
