Self-Portrait (009/365)

2009 01 09_0723 copy
“You use a glass mirror to see your face;
you use works of art to see your soul”

George Bernard Shaw (Irish literary Critic, Playwright and Essayist. 1925 Nobel Prize for Literature, 1856-1950)

TIME: 3:14 pm
PLACE: My bathroom mirror
SUBJECT: Me

Here is my first attempt at a self-portrait. It was a whole lot harder than I thought it would be! I had the viewfinder open and kept looking down at the camera and took many shots that looked like I was sleeping. Looking at this picture, my first thought is: Lordy, do I look like my mother (which isn't a bad thing). My second thought is: Sweet mother of Abraham Lincoln!... do I have dark circles or what!

I hate having pictures taken of me...hate it with a passion. Surprisingly I have posted quite a few pictures of myself on Envisage. Day 14 was the hardest for me, the rest(mostly) I thought I looked pretty good. The only difference I can figure out, I took them all myself, and believe me, there were MANY multiples. When someone else takes one of me they generally insist that I look great, when it is apparently obvious that I don't. They never let me erase it and refuse to let me pose for thirty different pictures until we get one that I approve of...gee..the nerve of some people.

Another plus about this 365 thing, I have learned to laugh at myself more. I have even posted a few non approved personal photos.

sarah - I hate, hate, hate, having my picture taken. I had to laugh at your "thirty different pictures until we get one that I approve of" line - I must of took about that many to get one I liked enough to post!

Of course I HAD to go check out your #14 - you are beautiful woman! One day I shall have the courage to pose and post such a photo. As I said on my other blog - self-acceptance of my body is my goal this year. I have 11.5 months to go. ;)

I have a tripod and I'll mount my DSLR on there and also a remote control thingie and do self portraits. Of course, I have to shoot about 40 before I have an approved image! LOL. Love the pic!

ETW - Thank you! I'll have to go check out the remote control thingie. HandsomeHusband has a tripod I'm sure I can use. Love the digital and lots of shots!

i've got crazy dark circles. the best product i've found so far: FYeye by benefit. it fades the darkness overtime. i also use their "lemonade," which is kinda like an undereye concealer. it REALLY brightens things up!
