The Family (253/365)

2011 09 10 IMG_0772w
“What greater thing is there for…human souls than to feel that they are joined for life - to strengthen each other in all labor, to rest on each other in all sorrow, to minister to each other in all pain, to be one with each other in silent, unspeakable memories.”

George Eliot (English Victorian Novelist. Pseudonym of Mary Ann Evans, 1819-1880)

TIME:  9:23 AM
PLACE:  The Hill, St. Louis, MO
SUBJECT:  Building detail

My dad picked me and DramaQueen up at 8am this morning to go to the Hill for cheese, salami and bread.  This building is across the street and east of J. Viviano & Sons on Shaw Ave, where we stopped.  There is a sign for Di Gregorio’s Market (5200 Daggett Ave.) on the front of the building, but I don’t know if they own the it or not.  In any case, I like this detail on its front.  I’ve been working on my genealogy again, and this sign is very apropos right now.

Squirrely (097/365)

2010 04 07 DSCF7516w
“If we had a keen vision and feeling of all ordinary human life, it would be like hearing the grass grow and the squirrel's heart beat, and we should die of that roar which lies on the other side of silence.”

George Eliot [Mary Ann (or Marian) Evans] (1819-1880), British novelist. Middlemarch, bk. 2, ch. 20 (1872).

TIME:  6:51 PM
PLACE:  Kitchen
SUBJECT:  Squirrel

MonkeyBoy found a baby squirrel in our yard this afternoon.  We had a storm earlier this morning and the little guy probably fell out of the tree during the high winds we had.  He was pretty done for when MB found him.  I thought we should just leave him where he was, but I was outvoted.  The next thing I knew, a box and HandsomeHusband’s old undergarments were employed as a bed; the heating pad was taken out and HH was googling to find out what to feed the rodent.  I left the group to their devices and went on a bike ride (if I didn’t go tonight, I wouldn’t be able to go until Sunday).  While I was gone, HH fed him a sugar/salt/water mixture while MB snapped photos.  When I returned, I was sent out to purchase some puppy milk replacement.  They named him “Alex” (and it is a him – HH also has to press on the squirrel’s boy parts to get him to urinate).  *Sigh*  It doesn’t look like he has broken anything, but we don’t know if he has any internal injuries.  We’ll see if he makes it through the night, then take it from there.

Linked & Twisted (260/365)

“What greater thing is there for two human souls than to feel that they are joined ... to strengthen each other ... to be at one with each other in silent unspeakable memories.”

George Eliot (English Victorian Novelist. Pseudonym of Mary Ann Evans, 1819-1880)

TIME:  6:25 PM
PLACE:  Laderman Park
SUBJECT:  Chain link fence

I was very fortunate to be able to have lunch with my HH today (he had 1/2 day off).  We went to a sushi restaurant, and dined at the bar.  The lunch date was a pleasant substitution for the dinner date we were to have with friends tomorrow (Friday).  Due to some unforeseen circumstances, several of them had to cancel.  HH and I were going to go out to eat anyway, just the two of us, but this way we didn’t have to worry about getting a sitter as the kids were in school - a bonus!  Now, maybe tomorrow, HH can get out by himself and visit a good friend of his – HH has had a stressful week and deserves it.  The kids want to go see “Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs” at the movie theatre, so I’m thinking that is what I will be doing tomorrow evening.

Football and cheerleading practice has moved to a new location, one with a lighted field.  The other park did not have lights and they are definitely needed as it is getting darker earlier each day…fall must be coming!  This chain link fence surrounds the park.  Didn’t we have a lovely blue sky today?
