"Flowers are wilting
My enthusiasm, too
Only weeds survive."

- Gaia Garden

TIME:  6:55 PM
PLACE:  Front yard
SUBJECT:  Black-Eyed Susan

Another picture of a victim of this summer’s excessive heat.  I had planted new perennials under the maple tree this spring – I’m thinking they are not going to make it this year.

The Dry Grass of July (200/366)

2012 07 18 IMG_5282w
Down goeth the grass, soon wrought to withered hay; Ay me alas, ay me alas, that beauty needs must yield And princes pass, as grass doth fade away.

Thomas Proctor (fl. C. 1578), British poet. A Proper Sonnet, How Time Consumeth All Earthly Things (attributed to Proctor) (l. 2-4). . . Oxford Book of Sixteenth Century Verse, The. E. K. Chambers, comp. (1932) Oxford University Press.

TIME:  6:52 PM
PLACE:  Front yard
SUBJECT:  Our lawn

The bad news…the heat and drought conditions have really taken a toll on our (and everybody else’s) lawn.
The good news…HH doesn’t have to mow in this weather.

“When the well is dry, they know the worth of water”

Benjamin Franklin (American Statesman, Scientist, Philosopher, Printer, Writer and Inventor. 1706-1790)

TIME:  7:52 PM
PLACE:  Front yard
SUBJECT:  Clover – dried out from the heat

Another scorcher today – it got up to 106 for our 9th day of over 100 degree heat.  But they are predicting thunderstorms (maybe) tomorrow night.  It will be too late for these guys though.

Cracking Up (203/365)

2011 07 22 IMG_3668w
“What, will the line stretch out to the crack of doom?”

William Shakespeare (1564-1616), Macbeth. Act iv, Sc. 1

TIME:  8:10 PM
PLACE:  Back yard
SUBJECT:  Cracks in the dry ground

We are still under an extreme heat wave.  The ground is dry and cracking.  With no rain in the forecast until Sunday (and then only a 30%  chance), it will only get worse.  I’ve only one question…why do weeds still manage to pop up during a drought, while my garden plants wither and die?  That’s just not right.
