House Fire (095/365)

TIME: 5:58 pm
PLACE: 14th Street & Union
SUBJECT: House fire

*~*~*

I heard sirens and saw smoke rising up from behind the factory shortly after I finished work today.

SD and I took Mulder and walked down the alley to see what was happening.

A house on South 14th street was on fire.

Chatting with the neighbors, I learned that it was empty; the renters had just moved out a few weeks ago, so no one was hurt which was good.

Many though it was suspicious, though.  I'm sure there will be an investigation.

Candle Wax (087/365)

“Don't tell me I'm burning the candle at both ends, tell me where to get more wax.”

PLACE:  Kitchen
SUBJECT:  Candle

I love candles.
I buy most of mine on clearance at Target.
I bought this one last year –
Black Orchid & Amber (an awesome smell by the way)
It was stored in a drawer and somehow became broken.
I lit it anyway and the wax spilled over the broken glass.

PLACE: Living room
SUBJECT:  Stella and her cake

We finally had Stella’s official birthday party today.

TIME: 6:11 PM
PLACE: Backyard
SUBJECT:  Fire

It was only about 15 degrees Fahrenheit outside.
But Stella wanted to have a bonfire anyway.
The kids didn’t care about the cold.
They gathered around the fire, roasted marshmallows and made s’mores.

Jack stayed inside.
But he was still cold.

Birthday Cake (162/366)

“Birthday Soup is good to eat, but not as good as Birthday Cake.”

Else Holmelund Minarik,
Little Bear

TIME:  7:40 PM
PLACE:  Dining room
SUBJECT:  MB’s Birthday cake

MB’s 13th birthday is tomorrow, but we celebrated tonight with family and his friends.  I made this cake with icing for the official “blowing-out-of-the-candles.”   The cake he really wanted – and I did make, just for him to eat – was a non-frosted, 9”x13” version.

Gas Flame (018/365)

2011 01 18 IMG_0731w
“In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.”

Albert Schweitzer (German medical Missionary, Theologian, Musician and Philosopher. 1952 Nobel Peace Prize, 1875-1965)

TIME:  9:33 PM
PLACE:  Kitchen
SUBJECT:  Gas burner on stove

Oh my it is utterly blah and blech around here!  Whatever way like to spell the color, it is grey, gray, grey, gray, grey, gray, grey outside.  And cold.  And without inspiration.  And did I mention it is grey outside?  Anyway, I tried taking pictures of the gas burner on my stove this evening.  I used the tripod and my Rebel.  I tried fast shutter speeds, slow shutter speeds, wide apertures, narrow apertures, high ISO, low ISO and everything in-between and a kabillion combinations thereof.  I could not get a decent shot – frustrating.  So I said, “&$#% it!” and grabbed my Canon PowerShot S2 IS (which is having some tremendous lens issues by the way) and clicked away on Auto without the flash.  This is the result. *shakes head*
