Library Facade (024/365)

"I resolved to stop accumulating and begin the infinitely more serious and difficult task of wise distribution."

Andrew Carnegie (American Businessman, 1835-1919)

TIME: 12:29 PM
PLACE: 121 E. Washington Street
SUBJECT: Carnegie Library

Our town's library was established in 1836 by German immigrants. It was at first a private endeavor and was housed in several different locations throughout the city. The Carnegie Foundation donated funds and in 1916 the present building was dedicated. The Foundation stipulated that the city provide the land for the building and maintain the library. Then in 1973, the library added a two story addition.

I remember my mom taking us to the library on a regular basis, that is where my love of reading had its beginnings. I went today to return overdue books of my son's. (I really don't mind paying the late fees - I view it as a donation to the library.) It was very cold when I took the photo, about 22 degrees, but the sky was a beautiful blue.
