Cemetery Flowers (082/366)

2012 03 22 IMG_2349w
“And weren't there special cemetery flowers, That, once grief sets to growing, grief may rest: The flowers will go on with grief awhile, And no one seem neglecting or neglected? A prudent grief will not despise such aids.”

Robert Frost (1874-1963), U.S. poet. "Place for a Third."

TIME:  7:21 PM
PLACE:  Cemetery
SUBJECT:  Flowers on Mom’s headstone

Due to circumstances beyond my control, I wasn’t able to make it out to the cemetery yesterday.  This evening, I made sure nothing stopped me from going there.

Buttons (038/366)

"Summoning spirits isn't 'Button, button,/Who's got the button,' I would have them know."

Robert Frost (1874-1963), U.S. poet. Two Witches (l. 7-8). . . The Poetry of Robert Frost. Edward Connery Lathem, ed. (1979) Henry Holt.

TIME:  11:46 PM
PLACE:  Kitchen
SUBJECT:  Assorted Buttons

Last week, StellaDella was asked to bring “100 of something” for the 100th day of school.  One stipulation was that the “something” had to fit in a brown lunch bag.  Then SD had to write 3 clues about her “something” and the rest of the class had to guess what it was.  We went with buttons.  Somehow, I have a ton of them.

“Something there is that doesn't love a wall”

Robert Frost (1874-1963), U.S. poet. Mending Wall (l. 1). . . The Poetry of Robert Frost. Edward Connery Lathem, ed. (1979) Henry Holt.

TIME:  7:49 PM
PLACE:  Wasabi Sushi Bar
SUBJECT:  Restaurant wall
(another cell-phone picture)

StellaDella had a bad afternoon.  It mainly had to do with being unwanted and told to go away by the older sister and brother.  There was a whole lot of crying and hurt feelings going on when I walked into the house after work.  Poor baby.  I feel your pain SD.  I really do.  See, I had two older brothers who did the same to me when their friends were around.  So to cheer her up, HH and I took her (all by herself-no older siblings!) out to eat and then to the bookstore.  It seemed to have done the trick.

With all her matter-of-fact about the ice-storm”

TIME:  5:13 PM
PLACE:  Front yard
SUBJECT:  Ice covered branches

Well, Ice-Pocalypse 2011 has arrived.  The kids were off of school today and it has already been called off again for tomorrow.  It’s cold.  Freezing cold.  In fact, tomorrow night they are calling for below zero temps – *shivers*.  Here’s hoping the electricity stays on.  If not, we’re heading for Dad’s house and his fireplace.  Pop, I know you read this, so don’t be changing the locks on us!

Green Paint (112/365)

2010 04 22 IMG_6226w
There was an old, old house renewed with paint,
And in it a piano loudly playing.”

Robert Frost (1874-1963), U.S. poet. "The Investment."

TIME:  8:00 PM
PLACE:  DramaQueen’s bedroom
SUBJECT:  “Sweet Midori” interior latex paint (& Tessa the cat in the background)

Before we moved into our house 10 years ago, I painted the kid’s bedrooms.  MonkeyBoy’s was painted a light blue color and DQ’s a dark pink.  Now she wants it painted a different color.  Pink is so passé – she’s almost a teenager you know and needs a less “babyish” color.  This lime green is what she chose.  The dark brown badly varnished woodwork is receiving a coat of creamy white paint.  Her room is shaped like a “L” so there are 6 walls to paint.  I have 2 more to do; the front wall which has a window and window seat to paint and will take a bit of time due to all that woodwork; and the long side wall, which after I do the cutting in, should be an easy roll.  I am very pleased with how well this paint is covering the pink, it’s only taking two coats.  It is amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do for a room.
