Hook, Line and Sinker (045/365)

TIME: 6:47
PLACE: Home
SUBJECT: Valentine dΓ©cor

*~*~*

I can tell I am not in my happiest state of mind because I have not decorated for the holidays like I usually do.

Last year, I didn't decorate for Easter, Independence Day, Halloween or Thanksgiving.  Christmas was minimal.

This is my attempt for Valentine's Day.  I found the valentine and the mason jar of fishing accessories in a booth at an antique mall last month.

I don't like my grumpy attitude and am making an attempt to get my mojo back.

*~*~*

I did make Grandma Caponi's spaghetti and meatballs today. My daughter, her boyfriend and my son's girlfriend were invited over for Valentine's dinner.

That's love.

My big February/Valentine decoration for work.

It makes a soothing “click-click-click” sound when the sun powers it – or it could be an annoying sound, depending on your point of view.

Valentine’s day has never been one of my favorite holidays.
So consequently, I don’t have a lot of Valentine decorations
However, I came across this gal at an estate sale last summer.
She is so sweet – I had to have her.

I know my husband loves me because he cleaned all the snow off my car this morning before he left for work.  He does that all the time, not just on Valentine’s Day, but because of the day it is, it just seemed extra sweet to me today.  I’ve got to enjoy that, because SOMEONE ate all of the chocolate covered strawberries he gave me on Sunday.  I’m looking at you oldest daughter.  I am so not happy with you right now.  I’m taking the Valentine candy I bought you back to the store.  Wait a minute…actually, I’m just going to eat it myself.  So there!

I’m With Cupid (044/366)

SUBJECT:  Kewpie figurine

This is some of my other Valentine’s Day decorations…one of three ceramic Kewpie cupids that I purchased from Hallmark back in the mid 1990’s.  I nestled him in a lovely thrifted candleholder made of plastic white flowers and plastic birds covered in red velvet and a sprinkling of gold glitter.  Very 1970’s kitsch.

I finally took down the snowflakes, put up the paper hearts, and hung this lighted heart on the front window.  That’s about the extent of my February decorating.

I put these together on Thursday evening, so I would have some decorations up for StellaDella’s family party on Friday night.  I had the paper and eyelets on hand, so it was a very inexpensive endeavor.  We began our Valentine’s day with the annual cooking of the pink heart-shaped pancakes. (I was going to post a picture of them, but that would be two pancake pictures in a row and that would be against my arbitrary rules I have for this project.) The kids only had a half-day of school, but managed to have Valentine parties worked into the condensed day.  HH gave me a box of chocolate covered strawberries and a card with kittens on it.  He also made a tasty dinner <= always a good thing!

Eddie Valiant: I suppose you used the old lipstick on the mirror routine huh?
Roger Rabbit: Lipstick, yes. Mirror, no. I found a nice clean piece of paper. [He holds it up and begins to read.] 'Dear Jessica. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. One one thousand! Two one thousand! Three one thousand! Four one thous...'

SUBJECT: HH's Valentine

Well, I told you I was crafting HH's valentine late last night and today.  I actually finished it and gave it to him about 3 this afternoon.  Then we had MonkeyBoy's basketball game (an away game) at 4:30.  We returned about 6 and had dinner.  I forgot to take a picture of the valentine before I gave it to him, so I stole it back for a photo shoot just a little while ago.  I pilfered used the instructions from LucyKate Crafts and pretty much copied her tutorial verbatim.  I used my snap setter instead of sewing on a snap and button as she did though.  I sewed the address using my free-motion quilting foot on my sewing machine - the first time I've ever used that foot - fun!

What's inside?  Well, I took some private photos just for HandsomeHusband's eyes.  He did enjoy them. *blush*

SUBJECT: DramaQueen's homemade valentines

We decided to make valentines this year for the kid's class parties.  We did some surfing on the net and found a treasure trove of ideas.  The generosity of the people who post tutorials and provide patterns without any compensation is just amazing.   There was soooo many wonderful valentines out there that we had a hard time deciding what to make.  DQ finally settled on making these cute kimono valentines from Zakka Life.  (That's why I was running around town yesterday looking for Dum-Dum pops!)  I showed her how to use my paper cutter and she went to town, cutting kimonos, wrapping ribbon for the sash, inserting the lollipops and drawing on the faces with a marker.  I think she did a great job and they turned out really cute.  I just adore handmade valentines!
