TIME: 1:04 PM
PLACE: Pediatrician's exam room

As Stella waited for her High School Physical (not to be confused with High School Musical) to commence, the Wolf Fairy was busy leading her wolf pack along with wild buffalo, eagles, tipsy bears, kangaroos, armadillos and koalas to wherever wolves, wild buffalo, eagles, tipsy bears, kangaroos, armadillos and koalas need to go on a Monday afternoon

The gorillas, meanwhile, continued playing in the mist.

Steve Martin: [asking Officer Iwanaga]
Steve Martin: What is the name of this monster?
Old Man on Hill on Oto Island: Godzilla...
Security Officer Tomo Iwanaga: You hear that? Godzilla.
Steve Martin: So, they believe that this Godzilla is responsible for all the ship disasters?
Security Officer Tomo Iwanaga: They're certain of it!

I found this guy at the Fairview Heights Saver’s thrift shop.

I’m With Cupid (044/366)

2012 02 13 IMG_0071w
“I don't understand why Cupid was chosen to represent Valentine's Day. When I think about romance, the last thing on my mind is a short, chubby toddler coming at me with a weapon.”

Author Unknown

TIME:  2:57 PM
PLACE:  Home
SUBJECT:  Kewpie figurine

This is some of my other Valentine’s Day decorations…one of three ceramic Kewpie cupids that I purchased from Hallmark back in the mid 1990’s.  I nestled him in a lovely thrifted candleholder made of plastic white flowers and plastic birds covered in red velvet and a sprinkling of gold glitter.  Very 1970’s kitsch.

Solstice Santa (355/365)

2011 12 21 IMG_1547w
“If you ever have to steal money from your kid, and later on he discovers it's gone, I think a good thing to do is to blame it on Santa Claus”

Jack Handy (American Writer and cast member of Saturday Night Live from 1991-2003. Famous for his Deep Thoughts comedy sketches.)

TIME:  9:33 PM
PLACE:  Home
SUBJECT:  Playmobil Santa

This year, we got out one of our many Playmobil Advent calendars to help countdown the days until Christmas.  Today’s figure was the man in red, Santa Claus, himself.  I was reminded that there are only three more boxes to open until the big event.  I am so not ready.

Dandelion For Domo (093/365)

2011 04 03 IMG_0572w
“Courtship consists in a number of quiet attentions, not so pointed as to alarm, nor so vague as not to be understood”

Laurence Sterne (Irish born English Writer, 1713-1768)

TIME:  7:19 PM
PLACE:  Front yard
SUBJECT:  Domo and Buzz Lightyear

How sweet!  Buzz has picked one of the first dandelions of the year and is presenting it to Domo.  I think Domo looks surprised and pleased to be the recipient of Buzz’s affections, no?

Horse Shadows (076/365)

2011 03 17 IMG_0076w
“Horse, you flame thrower,
you shark-mouthed man,
you laughter at the end of poems,
you brown furry locomotive
whipping the snow, I am
a pale shadow beside you.”

Anne Sexton (1928-1974), U.S. poet. "Horse."

TIME:  4:16 PM
PLACE:  Living room
SUBJECT:  Horse figures

It was a beautiful, lovely, sunny and warm St. Patrick’s Day.  I spent the morning with my sister, got my hair cut and walked up to the school with the dog at 3pm to pick up Miss StellaDella.  After arriving home, she spent some time bothering her brother and his friend, then brought up the box of Schleich animal figures and set them up on the living room floor in the sunshine that streamed through the open front door.  I loved the long shadows they cast on the floor.

Season’s Greetings (343/365)

2010 12 09 _MG_6253w
What did the salt say to the pepper?
”Season's Greetings!”

Joke, Unknown

TIME:  10:36 PM
PLACE:  Living room
SUBJECT:  Christmas salt & pepper shakers

I found these flirty cuties at the flea market in November.  The vendor only charged me a dollar for the pair.  Mrs. Salt happens to be a little paint-worn.  I like to think it’s because she’s been having a fun time with Mr. Pepper.

Turkey (321/365)

2010 11 17 IMG_5532w
I hate turkeys. If you stand in the meat section at the grocery store long enough, you start to get mad at turkeys. There's turkey ham, turkey bologna, turkey pastrami...Someone needs to tell the turkey, man, just be yourself.

Mitch Hedberg (American Comedian, 1968-2005)

TIME:  7:09 PM
PLACE:  Living room
SUBJECT:  Turkey salt shaker

I think last year, when I took a photo of my “Thanksgiving At Grandmother’s House” I mentioned that I did not have many Thanksgiving decorations.  Well, I decided to correct that this year.  I kept an eye out for inexpensive, old, turkey salt and pepper shakers and other figurines with a fall theme.  I picked up 2 sets of shakers – each with a tom and hen – and two tom shakers that lost their mates, all under $2.00 each.  In fact, I scored this little guy, marked “JAPAN”, for only 50 cents.  I do love the thrill of the hunt and the excitement of a cheap find.  <== I am so pathetic.

Bolt (043/365)

2010 02 12 IMG_4323w
All the world is birthday cake, so take a piece, but not too much.

George Harrison (Musician, producer and composer, member of The Beatles, 1943-2001)

TIME:  8:11 PM
PLACE:  My brother Michael’s kitchen
SUBJECT:  Bolt on birthday cake

StellaDella finally went back to school today.  She sucked it up because they were having the Valentine’s Day party this afternoon.  She made it through the day and had fun.  DramaQueen tried returning to school too, but I ended up leaving work at 10:30 this morning to bring her home.  They all have a 3-day weekend because of President’s Day on Monday…that should help with the recoveries.

We had SD’s and my niece Brandi’s family birthday party this evening at my brother’s house.  SD was happy with her Bolt decorated cake.  Instead of blowing out her candles, we had her use a plate to fan them out instead – we didn’t want to take the chance of any residual sickness landing on the cake.

Salt & Pepper (002/365)

2010 01 02 IMG_3309w
Never trust a skinny chef

Unknown

TIME:  5:52 PM
PLACE:  My sister’s kitchen
SUBJECT:  Salt & pepper shakers

The Bean turned 4 (going on 32!) on December 29th and my sister had her birthday party this afternoon.  These figures stand about 7-8 inches tall and are part of a set of 4 shakers.  The other two shakers are labeled “SUGAR” and “FLOUR”.  The caricature is one of a swarthy Italian (or Sicilian) chef.  This set of shakers originally belonged to my paternal grandparents and now sit on a shelf in a corner cabinet at my sister’s house.
