Unexcelled Beverages (322/365)

2010 11 17 IMG_5626w
“That was the best ice-cream soda I ever tasted.”

Lou Costello (American, comedian, d. March 3, 1959) – his dying words.

TIME:  6:51 PM
PLACE:  Home
SUBJECT:  Elk soda crate

I picked this up at a yard sale back in September - I think I paid $2.00 for it.  I searched the internet, but couldn’t find much of anything on the Elk’s Beverage company.  I did find an Elk’s Beverage wooden soda case on eBay.  That listing states that the case up for auction is circa the 1920’s-1930’s.  Other than that, I have no information.  In any case (Ha! - “any case”/ “soda case” - I made a pun, how amusing), this crate is sitting on my file cabinet, holding my small collection of photography books.

Enjoying The Breeze (248/365)

2010 09 05 IMG_3247w
“The really nice breezes blow through my body and into my soul.”

Astrid Alauda

TIME:  4:05 PM
PLACE:  Bedroom
SUBJECT:  Wooden box

Another pretty, pretty day here in the Midwest.  The air conditioner has been off and the windows have been open since Friday, letting in the fresh air.  At night, it has gotten a little chilly, but I do love snuggling under the blankets while the cold air creeps in through the window screens.  A breeze was blowing this afternoon, making the curtains billow.  Even the wooden box has a smile on its face as it sits there, enjoying the sunshine and fresh air.  Tomorrow, the heat is suppose to return, getting the temperature up into the high eighties.  So I guess the air conditioner isn’t finished being used for the season just yet.

Wooden Chair (153/365)

2010 06 02 IMG_1057w
“I love it, I love it; and who shall dare
To chide me for loving that old arm-chair?”

Eliza Cook (1818-1889), U.S. poet. The Old Arm-Chair (l. 1-2). . . Anthology of American Poetry. George Gesner, ed. (1983) Avenel Books.

TIME:  7:39 PM
PLACE:  Front porch
SUBJECT:  Old wooden chair

This chair sits by my front door and is currently holding my red, white and blue planter.  I purchased it at an estate sale almost 10 years ago for $3. It is missing a couple of spindles on the back, it has a horrible paint job that is peeling and it sits a bit wonky.  It has character – I love it.
