Remember that as a teenager you are at the last stage in your life when you will be happy to hear that the phone is for you.

Well, we did something we will probably end up regretting – we purchased a cell phone for DramaQueen for Christmas. We’ve been thinking about it for some time now. I’ve been wavering between her being too young and wishing she had one with her when she is at functions without me or HH. One thing good about it, we can use it as a disciplinary tool, e.g. we can take it away from her if her behavior is not acceptable. Sigh. I think mainly I am just not prepared for the teenage years that are rapidly approaching our doorstep. It means that I am getting older and that is something that I am not ready to accept at all.

Big decision...... Can I recommend texting? Just because the kids seem to be more apt to respond to the text and also they are then not holding that phone up to their heads.....
I understand your feelings. My kids were 14/15 when they got their phones and I really had a hard time with that.
Cam got the Samsung Rouge for Christmas - he had just a standard flip-phone for over a year so that I could be certain he was responsible enough to actually have a phone at all.
Dot's right on the texting. I added unlimited texting to his phone - best $5/month I ever spent!
That is an awesome first phone.
I would sign up for unlimited texting too, the first time you get a GINORMOUS texting bill you will be kicking yourself in the rear!!!
Dot O - The young guy at the phone store (how sad is it that all the salesmen are younger and hipper than me) said that too about kids responding to texts more that the phone now. Different generation for sure!
Monica - Ahh, the flip. Bet he is glad to trade up! DQ has shown responsiblity in keeping her other electronics well taken care of (Ipod, DS) so I'm pretty sure she'll handle this well.
SaraG - I did sign up for the unlimited texting...the sales rep at the phone store recommended it as well. And knowing how my niece texts (over 5,000!) I figure it's in DQ's blood.
The others are right - the kids text all the time. She will love it!
