Put A Cork In It (056/365)

2010 02 25 IMG_4769w
“Some weasel took the cork out of my lunch.”

W. C. Fields (American Comic and Actor, 1880-1946)

TIME:  8:48 PM
PLACE:  My brother’s kitchen
SUBJECT:  Wine corks

My sister-in-law hosted a Signature Homestyles show this evening.  That meant I got to get out of the house by myself!  If I had the funds (& a remodeled kitchen) I could have easily spent a whole lot of money.  But, since I don’t have either, I only purchased two items: a divided caddy for when we have get-togethers (no more silverware in plastic cups!) and a mini organizer basket which I plan to use at my desk.

My SIL has collected wine corks and placed them in the bottom of a hurricane candle holder on the kitchen island.  While the representative was tallying up orders, I was taking pictures.

Brown Sugar Cookies (004/365)

2010 01 04 IMG_3332w
“Sometimes me think what is love, and then me think love is what last cookie is for. Me give up the last cookie for you.”

Cookie Monster

TIME:  3:19 PM
PLACE:  The kitchen
SUBJECT:  Brown sugar cookie

HandsomeHusband printed out a cookie recipe from Nosh With Me in December and asked me to make them for him.  This afternoon, I finally fulfilled his request and I’m glad I did.  Two reasons; One: Using the oven heated up the kitchen nicely on this cold day and Two: These are damn good cookies.

Close Cover Before Striking (191/365)

2009 07 10 IMG_7849
“You know what burns me? Matches.”

Jay London (American stand-up comic, b1966)

TIME:  8:55 PM
PLACE:  Kitchen Counter
SUBJECT:  Book of matches

I spent the majority of the day trying to clear my desk and de-clutter the desk drawers.  I have a corporate tax return to finish (the client has an extension) and I need a clear space in order to have a clear head to do it.  I found a container filled with books of matches.  I think I picked up the container at an estate sale earlier this year.  From the look of the ads on them, they appear to be from the mid-seventies.  I liked these red match-heads (most of the ones in the other books were white).  When I was younger, I remember you could collect books of matches from just about everywhere, especially restaurants.  I guess with the no-smoking laws we have now, they are harder to come by.  I can’t remember the last time I saw a bowl of them for the taking.

Wet Paint (187/365)

2009 07 06 IMG_7319
"We'll paint the town and the front porch too."

Unknown

TIME:  7:28 PM
PLACE:  The front porch
SUBJECT:  Fresh paint

After only 5 years, we are slowly creeping up on completing the front porch project.  Well, the porch itself...landscaping around it is another story.  And ok, ok, we still need to put the cap on the handrail too.  You don't want to rush these things. ;)  This morning I rolled a coat of paint on the porch deck.  HandsomeHusband is suppose to be sanding the steps so I can paint those tomorrow.  Then there will be a second coat that has special anti-slip granules mixed in so we don't fall on our behinds when it rains.  Hmmmm, now I'm going to need some new porch furniture.

A Whole New Ball Game (111/365)

2009 04 21 IMG_4233
"What does a mama bear on the pill have in common with the World Series?  No Cubs."

Harry Caray (American radio and TV sportscaster, 1914-1998)

TIME: 6:57 PM
PLACE: Little League field dugout
SUBJECT: Baseball glove

MonkeyBoy is on a new Little League team this year.  His coach from last year did not return and his old teammates have been assigned to different teams throughout the league.  He is on a team with many boys who go to my old Catholic grade school.  I wonder if I will see anyone I know at the games this year.  Tonight was practice.  HandsomeHusband usually accompanies him, but tonight, HH had a meeting to attend.  He dropped MonkeyBoy off at 6pm and I arrived about 6:45pm with StellaDella, DramaQueen and DQ's best friend.  It was a little windy and brisk out this evening.  I really hope it warms up soon.  Afterwards, I bought the kids ice cream...I didn't get any, it's not on my diet!
