Don't Hold the Anchovies (063/365)

Counselor:  Ah, Mr Anchovy! Do sit down.
Anchovy:  Thank you. Take the weight off the feet, eh?
Counselor:  Yes, Yes.
Anchovy:  Lovely weather for the time of year I must say!
Counselor:  Enough of this gay banter. Now, Mr Anchovy…”

Monty Python's Flying Circus, Season One, Episode Ten, Vocational Guidance Counselor, John Cleese (Counselor), Michael Palin (Anchovy), Aired December 21, 1969

TIME: 4:06 PM
PLACE: Kitchen counter
SUBJECT: King Oscar Anchovy tin

There is only one reason this tin of anchovies made its way to my kitchen counter this afternoon.  I was making one of HandsomeHusband's favorite elixirs...homemade Caesar dressing.  I only make this dressing when preparing tonight's particular dinner:  Caesar Salad with Crispy Parmesan Chicken.  Mayonnaise, fresh lemon juice, anchovy fillets, garlic and Dijon mustard are combined to make the dressing.  Chicken cutlets are dipped in an egg wash, then dredged in a breadcrumb mixture (fresh breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese and some black pepper).  The chicken is cooked in a small amount of olive oil on the stovetop.  Finally, Romaine leaves, some chunked tomatoes and the fried chicken are arranged on a plate and drizzled with the dressing.  Pure bliss.

Ummmmmm, sounds yummy!! Except for the anchovies, or maybe I wouldn't notice them ;-) ... I like the bright red tin.

I don't know if I've ever had anchovies. Nice red container!

But did you take a photo of the dinner plate with everything on it! Sounds yummy and I would have loved to see it.

As far as anchovies, I don't think I've ever seen one in person.... I do like the can, though.

Oz Girl - I don't like anchovies by themselves, but blended in this dressing - delish!

Sara G - Even DramaQueen didn't realize that there were anchovies in it, she still liked it.

Mari - I confess to buying this particular brand for the tin color, I'm a weird that way. ;)

Christina - If you've had Caesar salad you may have...A lot of Caesar salad dressings have them in.

Robert - Red is one of my favorite colors.

Dot O - I did take a picture of the finished dish, but after I loaded it on the PC it was very blurry. I'll email to you anyway.

It's interesting how these tins are so attractive to look at (and yet so difficult to open!). At least the pull on this one is at the end and not at the side of the lid.

Lucy

You quote Monty Python . . . there's a lovely (and very funny) bit about this kind of tin in The Sermon from 'Beyond the Fringe'. Do you know it? L.

Lucy - I wasn't familiar with it, but you've gotta love Google.

Alan Bennett: "Life...is rather like...a tin of sardines...there's always a little bit in the corner you can't get out."

It is both a funny and lovely sermon. I'm going to have to see if I can find the show around here on DVD.

I love Caesar salad. I've been wanting to attempt it but the anchovies throw me off. I know it has them in it, but actually putting them in... whole other story. I should just try it..by the way dinner sounded d'lish!

Ev - You've should try it! The anchovies are blended into the mayo and other ingredients. It's not to bad, really!
