“I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him.”
Abraham Lincoln (American Lawyer, 16th President of the United States, 1809-1865)
TIME: 12:11 PM
PLACE: Shiloh, IL
SUBJECT: James Scott Home
According to the property listing, this home was owned by James Scott, a friend of Lincoln. It also claims that Lincoln slept here. I don't know if that is a true fact, but even if it turns out to be a falsehood, I don't care, I have always liked this house. Whenever I pass it, I like to imagine who lived there and what life must have been like for them. (I haven't done any research like I did on the sign in January - it's late!). It was built before 1900 and sits on 2.66 acres. The house has 2,540 square feet of living space, with 2 gas fireplaces, 4 bedrooms and 2 baths. There is a view of the St. Louis Arch from the brick patio. A gazebo and large barn are also on the property. What more could I ask for? For the small sum of $397,000 it could be mine!

Very regal, very pretty. It's neat that you get to see it all of the time too. Out where I live, $397,000 doesn't get you a whole lot of house, although I still couldn't afford that "small sum" either!!
Neat house..
Wonderful house. And the price is actually very reasonable for that type of house - out of my league, too.
Ho-hum, definitely out of our league also... but a very beautiful house and it sounds like a great view! (great shot you got there also!)
Oh yeah, forgot to mention... next time I decide to sit out and sun my toes with a margie, I'll send out an invite to all my bloggy friends! ;-)
Dot O - For the acreage and all, it isn't a bad price. I think it was updated inside recently as well.
Robert - I love older homes!
ETW - We are in a different league as well! ;)
Oz Girl - The view would be well worth it. I will be anticipating your invite for the drink! ;)
