“The departing year:
from my parents I have kept
my grey hair hidden.”
Etsujin (1656?-1739), Japanese poet. Trans. by Bernard Lionel Einbond; unpublished. (Untitled haiku).
TIME: 4:07 PM
PLACE: Living room
SUBJECT: Me
I’ve been covering-up the ever growing, pesky grey roots in my hair for a number of years now. The events of two weeks ago (Dad and his “memory glitch” - Thanks Dad!) accelerated my regularly scheduled visit to the beauty shop. My appointment with my hairdresser was at 10am this morning. One of these days I hope to embrace my sign of aging and let the silver-haired flag fly proudly…today, however, is not that day.
