“Thou art a female, Katydid! I know it by the trill That quivers through thy piercing notes So petulant and shrill. I think there is a knot of you Beneath the hollow tree, A knot of spinster Katydids,-- Do Katydids drink tea?”
Oliver Wendell Holmes – To An Insect
TIME: 6:53 PM
PLACE: Driveway
SUBJECT: Greater Arid-land Katydid (Neobarrettia spinosa)
Apparently we picked up a hitchhiker at the soccer games this afternoon. As DramaQueen and her cousin, Sophia, opened the car doors to head to my old grade school parish’s picnic this evening, this katydid jumped out and scared the pants off of them. They were both freaked out by it’s “buggy-ness.” Of course, SD had no such fears. She was more than happy to hold it for a picture.
