Cat Fountain (234/366)

TIME: 5:39 pm
PLACE: Upstairs hallway
SUBJECT: Cat water fountain

*~*~*

I bought this fountain for the cats to drink from back in early March.

I use to have a gravity feed water dish, but Mr. Jack, who I love to death, but who also can be an asshole, would continually knock it over just to see the water flow all over the floor.

I got tired of mopping up lakes in the hallway and decided to go the fountain route.

I am happy to report, he has not knocked this over at all.

My only complaint now, is the dogs love to drink from it too and since it only holds about 1/2 gallon of water, I am constantly refilling it.

That's okay....my hall floor remains un-flooded.

Fountain (210/366)

TIME: 7:44 pm
PLACE: Downtown
SUBJECT: Fountain and Courthouse

*~*~*

The husband and I celebrated our 31st-1st Date Anniversary this evening.

Our original 1st date restaurant over in St. Louis is only offering carry-out right now, so we ate at a local downtown restaurant instead.

Our youngest, StellaDella, and a friend of hers ate with us.

It was nice to get out of the house.

I’ve been having trouble this month taking photos.
Some days I just can’t find my mojo.
Lucky for me, the downtown fountain always makes a good subject.

City Lights (218/365)

20150806_IMG_2673
“All over the city lights were coming on in the purple-blue dusk. The street lights looked delicate and frail, as though they might suddenly float away from their lampposts like balloons.”
Elizabeth Enright, The Saturdays

TIME: 8:44 PM
PLACE: Downtown
SUBJECT: Light strings and fountain

I was driving to pick up Stella from the comic book store.
I can see that it is getting darker earlier.
The lights downtown looked nice though.
Our city put these up a couple of years ago.
They are strung across seven or eight blocks of East and West Main Street.

TIME: 5:23 PM
PLACE: Scottish Rite Cathedral
SUBJECT: Reflection in fountain

James, Stella and I met my dad for some fish at the Scottish Rite.
We ended up sitting with my Uncle Al and Aunt Ann who were there as well.
The husband was supposed to be cooking in the back, frying fish.
He was called into work instead.
Overtime – woot…woot!

I saw fog rising from the melting snow on my way home from work.
I stopped at the park and took a couple of pictures.
I didn’t really capture what I wanted…but these photos will do.

"There's a wishing fountain at the mall. And I threw a coin in for every woman in the world and made a wish. I wished for Jan to get over me. I wished for Phyllis, a plasma TV. I wished for Pam to gain courage. I wished for Angela, a heart. And for Kelly, a brain."

The oldest talked me into going over to St. Louis to check out dresses at the Galleria.
There were waaaay too many people here tonight.

TIME:  8:03 PM
PLACE:  Front porch
SUBJECT:  Lion’s head fountain

Yesterday I bought myself some miniature cattails to put in my water fountain.  Tonight, after cleaning out the tubing that directs the water through the lion’s mouth (I had a rather large blockage of dirt), I finally set up the new pump that I purchased a couple of months ago.  Now the soothing sounds of splashing water fill my front porch.

TIME:  10:40 AM
PLACE:  Our street
SUBJECT:  Fire hydrant

A blue notice was hanging on our front door knob yesterday afternoon.  It was from the water company telling us that we would be without water service from 9am until 1am today while they were making some repairs/improvements in our neighborhood.  This morning, they opened the fire hydrant by our house to reduce the water pressure while they were making repairs down a side street.  Now we are under a boil order until Saturday morning at 4am.  Great.

MonkeyBoy had his second day of Jr. High baseball tryouts.  He was one of 25 boys who were trying to make the team.  The school puts together one team consisting of eight-8th graders and seven-7th graders.  At 3:30 this afternoon, we were to call the school to find out if he made the team.  Unfortunately, MB was not one of the names on the recording.  He was devastated and I felt bad for him.  I may be biased, but he is a good player.  In any case, I am very proud of all of the effort and practice he put in in preparation for the tryouts – I told him so too.  Ironically, in today’s mail, I received a “Thank-You-For-Your-Resume-But-No-Thanks” letter.  I showed it to him.  The little turkey actually smiled at my misfortune…hmmph!  Actually, he wasn’t being mean-he just saw that I don’t get everything I try for either.  Poor MB and I…nobody wants us.  Ah well, it’s not the end of the world.

TIME:  7:43 PM
PLACE:  Downtown
SUBJECT:  Fountain & chili tents

Our city is holding its annual Chili Cook Off this weekend.  HH and MB are out camping with the Boy Scouts until Sunday, so it was just DQ, SD and me who went downtown to meet my dad and do some chili eating.  Holy cannoli was it ever crowded.  We ate several varieties and Dad even popped for a funnel cake, much to SD’s delight.  I could have eaten more chili, but SD wanted to go sit by the fountain in front of our courthouse.  I sat there with her for about an hour while DQ walked around the Cook Off with a few of her friends.  I don’t know how it happened, but somehow, I’ve ended up with two additional 13 year old girls spending the night at my house this evening.

Fountain At Night (194/365)

2009 07 13 IMG_7989
“– the main jet
Struggling aloft until it seems at rest

In the very act of rising, until
The very wish of water is reversed,
That heaviness borne up to burst
In a clear, high, cavorting head, to fill

With blaze, and then in gauze
Delays, in a gnatlike shimmering, in a fine
Illumined version of itself, decline,
And patter on the stones its own applause?”

(Richard Wilbur (b. 1921), U.S. poet. A Baroque Wall-Fountain in the Villa Sciarra (l. 31-40). . . Norton Anthology of Poetry, The. Alexander W. Allison and others, eds. (3d ed., 1983) W. W. Norton & Company.)

My Dad’s maternal side of the family is planning a reunion for this October and I am involved with the planning.  Tonight I had a meeting at a 2nd cousin’s home on the other side of town.  We decided on the food (it’s being catered) and I got to hear more family stories, so I really enjoyed the evening.  I brought a descendent chart for everyone to review and to make any corrections to their family lines for my genealogical records.  I’m planning on creating a gigantic descendent box chart beginning with Dad’s maternal grandparents to hang on the wall at the reunion, along with a compressed chart for everyone to take home.

This fountain is in the middle of our town’s square by the courthouse.  Originally built in 1937, it is a memorial to American servicemen.

SUBJECT: Lake fountain

We actually had sun and warm weather today!  I finished up at my client's office around lunchtime.  So I decided to go to the park and bask in the sunshine until it was time to pick up StellaDella.  It was very peaceful.  All too soon it was time to leave and go back to reality.  With 3 kids, a dog, 2 cats, a fish and a snake, I treasure those few and far between moments of solitude.
