Full Moon (087/365)

TIME: 7:55 pm
PLACE: Outside
SUBJECT: Moon

*~*~*

On the way home from picking up supper I noticed the moon was pretty big.

I pulled into a parking lot with a decent unobstructed view and took some photos.

When I was pulling out of the parking lot, "Werewolves of London" started playing on the radio - I kid you not!  It was a very appropriate song.

*~*~*

Mulder apparently felt the full moon coming on earlier today.

He did some howling of his own
(actually, he heard sirens, he always howls along with sirens).

(Dang, look at smear-age on the front door.  We may have some dogs living with us. LOL.
Also, that is me snorting/snickering in the video.)

I wasn't out there long....neither were they.

Street Scene (014/365)

TIME: 6:55 pm
PLACE: West Main Street
SUBJECT: New streetscape & hood reflection

*~*~*

Driving back home down (up?) West Main there is a hill between 6th & 10th Street.

The new street lights make a nice pattern.  There was no traffic so I thought I would slow down and take a quick picture.

Well, the phone flipped to self portrait and by the time I flipped it back I was further up the hill than I wanted to be AND a car was coming toward me.

I took the damn picture anyway.

I will try again at some point and maybe even get the shot I imagined.

Other windows and a black blob thingy.

Maple Leaves at Night (309/366)

TIME: 10:30 pm
PLACE: Backyard
SUBJECT: Maple

*~*~*

Working all day (it's month-end!) and having the darkness arriving earlier tends to make the daily picture taking a bit more challenging.

I am grateful for the sodium light in the alley which helps with night-time photos.

The maple tree seems to glow under it.

The Weight of the World (220/366)

TIME: 8:57 pm
PLACE: Alley
SUBJECT: Sunflower

*~*~*

HH planted sunflowers behind the garage along the alley fence.

The security light we have in the alley illuminates them at night.

They have grown very tall with large blooms.  So large, the stalk cannot hold the weight of the top-heavy sunflower head.

Night Glow (010/365)

20171115_IMG_4810_e
TIME: 10:13 pm
PLACE: Backyard
SUBJECT: Maple leaf

We pay the power company for an additional street light in the alley behind our house, mainly for safety reasons.

There is a side benefit of having the light; it makes the leaves on our “wonky” maple tree glow at night in the fall.

It’s something nice to view while I wait for the dogs to finish up outside before going to bed.

I’ve been having trouble this month taking photos.
Some days I just can’t find my mojo.
Lucky for me, the downtown fountain always makes a good subject.

Crescent Moon (199/365)

"When hope is fleeting, stop for a moment and visualize, in a sky of silver, the crescent of a lavender moon. Imagine it -- delicate, slim, precise, like a paper-thin slice from a cabochon jewel. It may not be very useful, but it is beautiful. And sometimes it is enough."
Author: Vera Nazarian

TIME: 8:55 PM
PLACE: Around town
SUBJECT: Moon & Venus?

The girls and I saw the Minons movie tonight.
On the way home we saw the crescent moon and Venus.
At least I think that’s Venus…Would the internet lie?

First Snow of Winter (363/366)

2012 12 28 IMG_8166wTIME:  10:11 PM

There was a misty rain as I left work at 4pm today.  By the time I arrived home at 4:30 it was turning to snow.

It continued all evening.  When we left for MonkeyBoy’s indoor soccer game at 8:15 there was about an inch accumulation of the wet stuff and still more coming down.

After we arrived back home, I went outside with the camera and attempted to take some photos.  I took a number of them (the top photo is from that round), came inside, reviewed them and went back out with the tripod to get longer exposures and less shake.  I didn’t stay out too long…I really don’t like the cold.

August Night (237/366)

We ate and talked in given light.
The children put their toys to grass
All the warm wakeful August night."

Dad joined us for supper at the Elks this evening.  After we ate, MB and SD went swimming, I drove DQ to a party and then returned to join Dad on the deck by the bar and concession stand.  The deck lights lit up the underside of the trees, illuminating them against the black sky.

Tent & Lights (168/366)

“It's always something”

Gilda Radner (American Actress and Comedian, 1946-1989)

TIME:  8:58 PM
PLACE:  Wine tasting
SUBJECT:  Tent & lights

Tonight I went with my old college roommate and a friend from high school to a wine tasting/fundraising event.  I needed it after taking MB to a friends house for a birthday party.  I was not paying attention when I was pulling up to his friend’s house.  I clipped the curb with my front passenger wheel and immediately heard a laud “hisssssssssssss” as the tire quickly deflated due to a gash I inflicted on the side of the tire. Crap.  The father of MB’s friend and another dad were super sweet and helped me by putting the spare on while I was waiting for HH.  We ended up buying four new tires for said Miata.  The tread was getting low and we were planning on purchasing new tires in the fall anyway – but still….that wasn’t in the plans for today

Night-Light (087/366)

“Dear night-lights, protect my sleeping babes. Burn clear and steadfast tonight.”

TIME:  10:41 PM
PLACE:  Front yard
SUBJECT:  Solar yard light

I ran this evening.  5 minutes of running, followed by 3 minutes of walking x 3.  According to my phone, I went 2.11 miles in 27:13 minutes with an average speed of 4.66 mph.  That made a pace of 12:52 minutes/mile and I burned 260 calories.  Yay me.
~*~*~
Tonight, I decided to try some quick experimenting with some night-time photography.  I like the patterns that our solar lights produce around the flowerbeds.

Night Steeple (061/366)

2012 03 01 _MG_1723w
An instinctive taste teaches men to build their churches with spire steeples which point as with a silent finger to the sky and stars.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge (English lyrical Poet, Critic and Philosopher. 1772-1834)

TIME:  8:26 PM
PLACE:  Freeburg, IL
SUBJECT:  St. Joseph’s Church

I think a tripod is essential for night photography.  Too bad I didn’t have one with me this evening.  I tried setting the camera on the car roof but unfortunately, it wasn’t at the proper height for the shot I wanted.  So I resorted to trying to hold it as steady as I could.  I even held my breath while pressing the shutter button.  The end picture turned out ok, but no where near as clear as I wanted.  Lots of room for improvement.
