Monday Rain (293/366)

TIME: 5:59 PM
PLACE: Back of the house.
SUJBECT: Pumpkins and pansies

*~*~*

We had a cold rain yesterday afternoon, last night and on and off today - definitely in the midst of fall now.

For a Monday, the day went by super fast.  I work for a financial institution and spent the day working on a section of the quarterly Call Report. I was behind in getting my area done because 1) budget entry 2) auditor requests 3) backing up Accounts Payable for 2 days and 4) assorted account reconciliation fires in general.

October has never been a very fun month my area of the accounting world.

SUBJECT:  Wet street

Between the torrential rain showers we had this afternoon, I went downtown to purchase movie tickets for SD and me to see “Paranorman”.  I did not take an umbrella.  Dumb move.  Lucky for me, many of the storefronts have awnings.  I took advantage of them when returning to my car.

SUBJECT:  Traffic

DramaQueen had a doctor’s appointment at 3:15pm at an office a way west of the city of St. Louis.  When the appointment was over, I knew that the drive home would be a challenge.  Mix up the normal rush hour congestion with lots of rain and you have yourself a nice little traffic jam.  Luckily, we didn’t stay in one spot for for long; there were mainly a lot of break lights with stop and go traffic.  I did managed to snap off a quick picture while we were at one of the standstills.

The first day of summer has arrived.  It was also take-the-three-kids-to-the-dentist-day.  Such a plethora of excitement!  After the appointment, we went to Target to pick up a few things for DQ who is going to the Ozarks for five days with her second cousin.  There was a thunderstorm while we were in the store, it cleared up after a bit and the sun shone again.  After supper, while I was sitting on the porch, we had a sun shower – a weather phenomenon I always find fascinating.

More rain this afternoon led to a cancelled baseball game for MonkeyBoy tonight.  I managed to capture this image of the rarely seen HandsomeHusband as he left for an evening meeting.  Like the famous images of Bigfoot or Sasquatch (the creature that allegedly inhabits forests, mainly in the Pacific Northwest), this photo is blurry from the low light and movement of the subject.  But it’s the best I have to prove that the HH does indeed exist.

Rainy Night Reflection (063/365)

DramaQueen went to the movies tonight to see “I Am Number Four” with friends.  While she was there, the rain that was expected showed up.  She texted me to come get her after the movie was over.  As I was driving down Main Street to go fetch her, I took this quick snapshot of the colorful reflections in the wet street from the neon signs shining through the windows of a local tavern.  It’s blurry because I quickly took it as the car was moving…just think what a tripod and more time could capture on a rainy night like tonight.

This day before Thanksgiving was a dark rainy one.  Nevertheless, my day was brightened by a good-looking, younger guy next to me at the credit union drive up lanes.  He told me I was pretty, he loved my beautiful smile and he’d like to take me away and make me feel like I was sixteen again.  I told him that I didn’t think my husband would like that ~  he said that he’d have me back before the husband knew I was gone.  I said that while I appreciated the offer, I had to decline and then wished him a Happy Thanksgiving.  And yes, there was a big, silly grin on my face the rest of the drive home.

SUBJECT:  View through the Miata’s rear plastic window

The part to fix the Jeep’s rear speed sensor finally came in and last night we dropped the Jeep off at the dealership to be fixed today.  This morning was rainy, wet, overcast and cool…definitely a fall day.  I drove the Miata to work and found out that the rubber edging on the convertible top was not sealing properly and was letting the rain leak in through the driver’s side window and onto my clothes *deep sigh*  ~ ah, well, it’s only water right?  At least it dried fairly quickly once I made it into the office.

PLACE:  5100 block of West Main St.
SUBJECT:  Leaves on mailbox

After making the deposit for work this morning, I drove by the mailboxes in our parking lot and dropped some paid bills in the slot.  As I did, I noticed that the yellow leaves that fell from the overhanging tree and the blue box made a nice color combination.  I also liked the reflection of the tree on the wet surface.  So I parked my car and debated walking back to the box with my camera.  I gave myself a little mental pep talk, “You won’t have a picture today if you don’t do take it now…you will kick yourself later for not taking this picture….a few moments of embarrassment for a picture is worth it…come on, be a man!”  I took my advice and did it.  See, I’m FINALLY getting over my shyness about taking pictures in public.  Yes, I am whacko, HandsomeHusband will vouch for that.  But that’s why he loves me so!

SUBJECT:  Traffic lights

The kids are off school tomorrow for a teachers institute day and Monday for Columbus Day.  Because of that, I kept thinking that today was Friday and have been feeling discombobulated all day long.  Today was dark and dreary with a cold rain.  Football and cheerleading was canceled tonight and I must admit to be feeling rather relieved that it was.  One less place for us to be.  We ended up making a quick run to the video store for a movie and game stock-up for the long weekend.  I took this picture on our way back home.  As I was taking this quick shot, I got the horn from the impatient driver behind me – what’s the matter, couldn’t they see I was practicing my art?  The nerve of some people, geez.
