“God says to me with kind of a smile,
"Hey how would you like to be God awhile
And steer the world?"
"Okay," says I, "I'll give it a try.
Where do I set?
How much do I get?
What time is lunch?
When can I quit?"
"Gimme back that wheel," says God,
"I don't think you're quite ready yet."”

SUBJECT: 1949 Chevy Deluxe Steering Wheel
The HandsomeHusband and MonkeyBoy cleaned out the garage this weekend. While going through the tons of crap stuff we had in there, he came across this steering wheel that had been left by the former homeowner. We figured it was pretty old, but did know what year it could be from. I posted a photo of it on a Chevrolet restoration forum and quickly received an answer…1949. The chrome is a little pitted, and the grip is worn all over, but it isn’t cracked and overall, it is in pretty decent shape. I love the retro look of the piece and how the wheel spoke looks like an airplane propeller.

It's crazy that the previous homeowner left that. I would think it would be worth a little money. Vintage things are fun!
I don't think I have ever looked at steering wheel so intently. Enjoy and appreciate the poem you quote.
