“Soup of the evening, beautiful soup!
Soup of the evening, beautiful soup!
Beau—ootiful Soo—oop!
Beau—ootiful Soo—oop!
Soo—oop of the e—e—evening,
Beautiful, beautiful soup!”

Lewis Carroll [Charles Lutwidge Dodgson] (1832-1898), British author, mathematician, clergyman. The Mock Turtle, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, ch. X, Macmillan (1865).

TIME: 5:25 PM
PLACE: The kitchen table
SUBJECT: Minestrone soup

Today was Labor Day here in the USA (Canada and Bermuda as well) where we celebrate the social and economic achievements of the American worker. Normally the family walks in the Labor Day parade here in our town with HH’s union. The kids love it since they get to heave candy (mini tootsie rolls) all along the parade route, but since SD is still getting over her sickness, only HH and MB went to march this morning. I celebrated by doing laundry and going to the grocery store to get the ingredients to make this minestrone soup that was posted last November on Scribbit – Motherhood in Alaska. I loved it and HH declared that it “was pretty damned good soup,” so it will definitely be made again. I like soup and try to have it with homemade bread and salad a few times a month during the fall and winter season.

That looks wonderful. And after reading the recipe, it sounds wonderful. I'm a big fan of soup too. DH isn't crazy about them, but will eat them on occasion. I cannot fault him on this because he is generally so easy to cook for. My late DH wasn't.
